After a week of the flu, I'm not better and have developed a New symptom: diarrhea. What can I do?

Question the flu dx: IF you really HAD the flu, it isn't causing your diarrhea now. As long as your stools aren't bloody, you don't have a fever and your abdominal pain is minor after an episode of diarrhea, just keep orally hydrated and eat smart. Avoid caffeine, milk and fatty/fried/greasy foods. And eat bananas, steamed rice, apple sauce, lean protein and toast [a little jelly is okay, but no butter]. ...Read more

Had a 24 hour flu bug w/ diarrhea. Diarrhea went away for a day & I had normal stool. The day after the diarrhea returned. Is this normal for the flu?

Unlikely: Hi, usually the immunity the body generates from the bug that caused the diarrhea is what leads 2 recovery from the infection. So unless your immunity took a hit in 1 day or you got superinfected with another bug the diarrhoea does not recur. In most cases though after a bout of diarrhea pts develop transient lactose intolerance-which causes diarrhea. Avoid milk; dairy ;monitor. See pcp if no change. ...Read more

What to eat when you have the flu and some diarrhea? No vomiting.

What to eat when you have the flu and some diarrhea? No vomiting.

Bland and simple: There is no special answer here except keep it bland and simple. Usually you don't want anything more than this anyway. Avoid fatty foods that are heavy on the stomach. The main thing is to hydrate readily with sports drink and listen to your body - it has a way of telling you what to eat and what to avoid. Your appetite will return to normal as the illness passes. ...Read more

Sick with the flu (respiratory) for the past week, no gastrointestinal issues. Symptoms are mostly gone, but now watery, yellowish diarrhea?

In: In a situation such as the one you described dehydration is the main concern. The body can handle losing fluids without replacing them up to a certain point. The signs of dehydration that warrant a mediical evaluation are;
letargy
decreased urine output
increased heart rate
increased respiratory rate
lightheaded
nausea/vomiting
if these are present the affected person should be evaluated in an urgent care or emergency room where the patient will receive IV fluids and be monitored.

I am confident your wife has improved by now.
Take care. ...Read more
