Pain: Minor Post colonoscopy pains may be normal but if you had abdominal distension, worsening pain, no flatus or no bowel movement, then it will be concerning and you need to see a doctor or go to an ED.

Pain in lower left abdomen, back pain and stool looks like it squeezed or watery. This I march seen many doctors. Tired of pain? Had colonoscopy

Hard to say: If you have had an extensive work-up, but still have no diagnosis, go back to your primary care physician and go over all of the tests and results and continued symptoms with him or her. Chances are, something is being overlooked or not addressed. In the meantime, for bowel dysfunction, eat yogurt twice daily and take a probiotic twice daily - like culturelle. Normalizing the bowel flora may work.

What does the doctor do during a colonoscopy and what is he looking for?

Purpose: colonoscopy: The premiere purpose is to prevent colon cancer. Almost all colon cancer starts with a benign growth, a polyp, which takes ten years to become cancer. Removing polyps during test eliminates risk for cancer! Can also look for other diseases (colitis, diverticulitis).

Why do doctors pump air into the colon during a colonoscopy?

Why do doctors pump air into the colon during a colonoscopy?

For visibility: When the colon is properly prepped and empty, we have to put air or nitrogen in to distend the colon to allow for visibility and accuracy to visualize the mucosal surface.

My doctor said he might use propofol during the colonoscopy. Isn't that the stuff that michael jackson took?

My doctor said he might use propofol during the colonoscopy. Isn't that the stuff that michael jackson took?

Yes: And if he was having a colonoscopy I would use that on him too. But he is no longer alive because he was taking that drug for the wrong reasons and most importantly he was not monitored properly by an anesthesiologist.

When polyps are found during colonoscopy that are 2-3 CM in size why would a doctor leave them instead of taking a biopsy?

When polyps are found during colonoscopy that are 2-3 CM in size why would a doctor leave them instead of taking a biopsy?

Colonoscopy: Biopsies are usually only taken of any polyps that don't look normal. Polyps of that tiny size are unlikely to be a problem and to a trained eye, the risk of taking the biopsy probably higher than the risk of possible malignancy! I am sure you were told to have a follow up colonoscopy in 6 mos to 1 year.

Had a colonoscopy done on the 8th of may and I feel bloated and I've lost weight should I be concerned? Should I go see my doctor?

Should: Not be having those symptoms this far out as a result of your colonoscopy. I would most definitely talk with your primary doc and the endoscopy doctor as well and discuss the situation.

Do GI doctors perform anoscopes and rectoscopes during a colonoscopy? Can it be requested or are anoscope/rectoscope exclusive to proctologists?

Included: A colonoscope is inserted into the anus, ascends through the rectum, and goes on to check the rest of the bowel. Thus colonoscopy includes examination of the anus and rectum. However, if there is a suspicion of anal pre-cancer (e.g. In HIV positive men) a specialized magnifying instrument is used to assess the anus.

Doctor took biopsy on multiple sites during colonoscopy due to inflammation. Said it may be due to prep. Is she being kind to stop me worrying?

Doctor took biopsy on multiple sites during colonoscopy due to inflammation. Said it may be due to prep. Is she being kind to stop me worrying?

It is possible: Some types of bowel preps can certainly cause some nonspecific irritation of the colon lining. The biopsies would be appropriate to confirm this.

Could a colonoscopy or endoscopy allow the doctor to see the pancreas?

Could a colonoscopy or endoscopy allow the doctor to see the pancreas?

Only the duct system: Scopes are inside the intestines. The pancreas is external to the intestines. The opening of the duct leading from the pancreas into the intestines is visible. The endoscopist can enter that duct and inject a dye that will light up the ducts within the pancreas. This procedure can identify problems within the pancreatic duct system.

If a biopsy is taken during a colonoscopy will your doctor tell you? And will he tell you what the results were?

Yes: If your doctor takes a biopsy in the course of your colonoscopy, then he/she will definitely tell you that they did so. They should have those pathology results back to you within 6-7 days. If you're worried, just call your doctor.

Is it possible for doctors to discover blocked heart arteries during a colonoscopy?

Is it possible for doctors to discover blocked heart arteries during a colonoscopy?

Not directly: The colonoscopy does not in any way look at the heart, only at the lining of your colon. If a patient has issues during the test such as chest pain, irregular heart beat or hypotension, coronary artery disease may be considered, but different types of testing will be needed to verify.

Should I be worried about inflammation found inside my colon during colonoscopy? What can cause it? Doc said the biopsy came back normal?

Not now/depends,,,: At this point, unless you've got any positive signs of an inflammatory bowel condition, you should not worry excessively. Your biopsy was negative. Your mother having colon cancer should motivate you to take steps to take care of your health that way with a high fiber diet and check-ups like the colonoscopy that you did. Close follow up with your doctor also helps a lot.

During a colonoscopy a few weeks ago I remember my upper body being moved and/or shaken a bit by the nurse and doctor. Any reason for that?

Repositioning: Sometimes during a colonoscopy it is necessary to reposition you. This may allow for easier passage of the scope. It may also be done for other issues, like to improve your breathing or put you in a more comfortable position if you moved. Most colonoscopies are done under sedation and you are not entirely unconscious. You may remember parts of what happens but not the entire context.
