Spironolactone: For adult females the best therapy is usually an anti androgen. If it is effective it can be continued for years. It is not an antibiotic. Do not use if pregnant or kidney failure. Usual dose 100mg a day but varies from 25 to 200. Note that some birth control makes acne worse while some pills make acne better. Do you have normal menses?

Accutane caused me to have rosacea and I'm a 20 year old male. What is this thing doing to my body? Why do doctors prescribe this for mild acne?
Accutane treatment: Accutane is a vitamin a derivative used to treat acne. It is fda approved but has siginificant potential side effect and should only be used in stubborn to clear acne or widespread pustular acne which does not respond to more traditional topical and oral medications. Rosacea should be a temporary side effect from the Accutane and should clear once you are off the medicine. Hope this helps.

Far safer options: You are right to be concerned. Antibiotics kill our friendly flora leading to overgrowth of yeast/unfriendly bacteria which has adverse consequences. I've successfully treated acne in many without ever prescribing antibiotics. Dietary changes, nutritional supplements, herbs, natural lotions & homeopathy are very effective. See http://bit.
