Spironolactone: For adult females the best therapy is usually an anti androgen. If it is effective it can be continued for years. It is not an antibiotic. Do not use if pregnant or kidney failure. Usual dose 100mg a day but varies from 25 to 200. Note that some birth control makes acne worse while some pills make acne better. Do you have normal menses?

What next?: What do you mean exactly? Is the new regimen not working? Besides the medication, you could add fish oil 3 grams a day. Omega 3s are very important against acne. It wouldn't hurt and may help quite a bit.

Accutane caused me to have rosacea and I'm a 20 year old male. What is this thing doing to my body? Why do doctors prescribe this for mild acne?

Accutane caused me to have rosacea and I'm a 20 year old male. What is this thing doing to my body? Why do doctors prescribe this for mild acne?

Accutane treatment: Accutane is a vitamin a derivative used to treat acne. It is fda approved but has siginificant potential side effect and should only be used in stubborn to clear acne or widespread pustular acne which does not respond to more traditional topical and oral medications. Rosacea should be a temporary side effect from the Accutane and should clear once you are off the medicine. Hope this helps.

I wanted to know whether I will really heal from acne after using accutane?

I wanted to know whether I will really heal from acne after using accutane?

For a while: You'll be free for at least several months, maybe a few years. Acne eventually self-cures altogether but there's no predicting when. In the meantime, if you needed isotretinoin, stay the course and be brave.

I am female 5'4 and 10 stone, I have been prescribed 20mg of Accutane a day for six moths to get rid of my moderate acne. Is this the correct dose?

Yes: 20 mg per day is the correct dose for moderate acne. You must be on effective contraception while taking Accutane because the risk of fetal deformity in the event you fall pregnant is very high. If you are not on contraception see your GP at once. Thanks for trusting HealthTap!

Accutane or spironlactone? Female, 23, stubborn acne. Took Accutane 8 years ago, oily skin and excessive menstruation controlled with progesterone.

Either work: If you took accutane and still have problems then maybe try something different. Also spironolactone will not require the multiple visits and tests that accutane does. And best of all it is effective.

Does tetracycline for the treatment of acne safe? Will it cause toxicity?

Does tetracycline for the treatment of acne safe? Will it cause toxicity?

Far safer options: You are right to be concerned. Antibiotics kill our friendly flora leading to overgrowth of yeast/unfriendly bacteria which has adverse consequences. I've successfully treated acne in many without ever prescribing antibiotics. Dietary changes, nutritional supplements, herbs, natural lotions & homeopathy are very effective. See http://bit. That is not the: Correct dosing for tetracycline. I would get culture of your urine to rule out infection, and make sure you see a dermatologist for your acne regimen
