Spironolactone: For adult females the best therapy is usually an anti androgen. If it is effective it can be continued for years. It is not an antibiotic. Do not use if pregnant or kidney failure. I am struggling with mild acne, seems to be hormonal. I have tried different types of birth control pills, Tetracycline and accutane(accutane worked but damaged my eye sight and my acne came back after stopping). ?
Accutane caused me to have rosacea and I'm a 20-year-old male. What is this thing doing to my body? Why do doctors prescribe this for mild acne?
Accutane is a vitamin a derivative used to treat acne. It is fda approved but has siginificant potential side effect and should only be used in stubborn to clear acne or widespread pustular acne which does not respond to more traditional topical and oral medications. Rosacea should be a temporary side effect from the Accutane and should clear once you are off the medicine.

I've been using benzoyle peroxide for my acne and I'm also on tetracycline they are working wonders but what happens when I stop taking them?
Depends: Acne is generally a chronic condition in adolescence and early adulthood. Benzoyle peroxide is a staple of skin care so I would continue to use it. If you've been using the Tetracycline for a long time (more than 1 yr) then you can trial off, if the acne comes back, then restart the tetracycline. If the acne doesn't come back then you can consider only using the benzoyle peroxide for flare-ups. ...Read more
I took tetracycline 500 mg a day for my acne. After 2 weeks in, I notice foams in my urine. It does not appear everytime though. Should i be worried?
Far safer options: You are right to be concerned. Antibiotics kill our friendly flora leading to overgrowth of yeast/unfriendly bacteria which has adverse consequences. I've successfully treated acne in many without ever prescribing antibiotics. Dietary changes, nutritional supplements, herbs, natural lotions & homeopathy are very effective. See http://bit. GI overgrowth : Bacteria resistant to the tetracycline can overgrow in your GI tract. But one of the reasons Minocycline is used for acne is that there is a low level of resistance that develops to it. Any drug can irritate the stomach lining, but Minocycline has a very low rate of GI side effects. ...Read more
