What can I take to help sleep at nite. Diphenhydramine does not work n melatonen makes my legs restless.?

Insomnia treatment: Medication is not always the best answer. There's more than one type of insomnia, with different causes and treatments. If your primary problem is difficulty falling asleep at the beginning of the night, try to find a doctor or psychologist who used cognitive/behavioral therapy (cbt) for insomnia. How do I sleep better at night? How can I sleep better at night? I already take sleeping pills nightly but they don't help. I have trouble falling asleep and then waking up dozens of times through out the night.

Not : Not sleeping well is a very frustrating condition. You may have already tried not drinking caffeine after noon, not exercising too close to bedtime, and not using your computer or tv within an hour of bedtime. Consider adding "white noise" such as a fan. Be sure that your room is cool and not overly warm. Eating light during the day, then having a larger meal at around 7 pm or so can be helpful. If these don't work, you may want to see your doctor or even a sleep specialist to discuss your situation. ...Read more

Insomnia: There are tons of different sleep aids available, but at this point your insomnia is also caused by the fear/anxiety of not being able to fall asleep. I've had good success with short as needed use of Lorazepam in select patients. It works like a champ for them up to a week and then they are able to sleep on their own. There's a concern of them being addictive, but short and as needed use is ok. ...Read more

Possibly...: Zolpidem hits the same receptors as the benzodiazepines (Valium and such) and that's how it makes you sleepy. Also the FDA has put out a bulletin that women should take a lower dose (5 mg) than men. So if you have the 10 mg's get a good pill splitter and cut the dose in half to 5mg. and observe. Will .25 Ativan (lorazepam) give me a full nights sleep without anxiety interruption waking me up and then i can't get backtosleep. Also started taking 40mgpaxil?

Probably not : All tranquilizers will relax you at first, but then the effect wears off if you continue to take them. They are best taken occasionally rather than regularly. There is not a sleep med that will always let you fall asleep quickly, sleep all night, and wake up without feeling groggy. Try playing relaxing music as you go to sleep. Also sometimes melatonin can help. Also your Paxil (paroxetine) may help. ...Read more
