Diagnosis: Most cases I see are due to sitters disease or gait (ex; foot position). But you need to identify the origin and rule out more serious causes. Any neurologic issues like numbness in the legs, no muscle weakness, no fever, no urinary pain, fever, genital discharge, acute trauma, insect bites, etc

Muscularskeletal: Although there are other possibilities the most likely are an inflammation of what is called a facet joint, disc bulge or herniation, lumbar sprain or trigger points. I would begin treatment with drugs like advil (ibuprofen) which are ant inflammatory and analgesic, a muscle relaxant, physical therapy and possibly chiropractic care. An MRI to follow if needed. ...Read more

I seem to be having headaches and lower back pain everytime I bend down... I wanted to know if there may be shunt malfunction due to hydrocephalus

Check with neuro: If you're having new onset headaches when bending at the waist and back pain which wasn't there before then, you could have several things...but with the presence of a shunt I wouldn't waste any time. Either get to your neurologist or neurosurgeon to get things looked at quickly. Don't hang out waiting for more to develop.

For a month I've had lower back pain n stiffness making it hurt when I sit, cough, bend. Lying down/standing straight feels best. What could it be?

Consult PT: This could be a strain. There's a whole bunch of questions that need to be answered to make the diagnosis here as this is one of the most common complaints to primary care physicians. You can potentially make the diagnosis by trying a simple therapy. Lay on the floor with you face down and perform a press up, while keeping your hips on the floor. This provides back extension. Do this 10x/day. ...Read more

I keep having lower back pain in my l2-l3 vertebrae (approx) whenever I bend down to do something. It feels like I pinched a nerve, what is wrong?

Statistical reply: Most back pain, no matter high or low, is due to muscle strain. A large group is due to overstretched ligaments. Bad posture can cause pain. Pinching feelings are not always result of nerve compression but may be. The facet joints can be forced together with a pinching sensation, although this usually happens when the back is extended. ...Read more

I'm 25, workout for 5 years. Sleep on old mattress, recently been having lower back pain, hard to bend. My left chest stings from time to time, why?

Nonspecific: Low back pain is very common, and usually related to muscle-spine problems that aren't dangerous. Stinging in the left chest doesn't point to a single diagnosis. Try things like stretching or yoga. Consider changing your mattress. If you're worried, see your primary care provider for a proper evaluation. Hope this helps! ...Read more
