Sore 1-2 wks: I tell my patients to take it easy for the first 3-4 days, elevate to heart level, ice a lot and limited walking around for the first week so that it doesn't swell early on. That or locked menis: A locked knee is more likely than an acl. An acl usually does not cause a locked knee. After an acl u can have full rom, but have a lot of early swelling, not so with a meniscus tear which is usually a bucket handle tear.C ur orth and the DX can b easily made. ...Read more

Depends: Acl reconstructions vary a great deal. The majority of my patients can walk without crutches within a week. I let my patients walk out from surgery if they are able. It depends not only on the method and techniques involved, but also on the amount of quadriceps muscle weakness before surgery. Recommendations: To be on the safe side, I recommend no MRI near or at the joint with surgery for at least 6 weeks. A brain or cervical spine MRI is usually ok at any time after surgery. However, the knee is healing with a metal/bone interface, and MRI increase the temperature of your body by at least one degree overall, and more at the scan site.
