Can Synchronized Swimming Cause Scoliosis
Not likely: Scoliosis is a lateral curvature of the spine. Causes include bony deformities and either paralysis or spasm of the paraspinal muscles. Exercise is generally not useful for straightening the spine (this generally requires surgery), although exercise can help reduce symptoms such as pain and allow you to be more functional. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Can swimming help or make scoliosis worse, and how? I'm wondering because there's a 90 degree pool, but I wouldn't want it to worsen my scoliosis.
Yes, swimming helps: Typically swimming does not worsen scoliosis.Rather good core strengthening from exercises like swimming, ellipticals &pilates are beneficial. We would need to also have more info about your pool.COnsideration would be for you to see a sports medicine or PMR MD & complete Physical therapy if you havent already.Once we know the degree of your curve that would help,in males these are often small. ...Read more

I would like to ask if their is any best way or technique for swimming you can advice specially as having scoliosis. Thank you?
Dextroconvex 5degree & 7degree levoconvex at L3, both minimal scoliosis.. is swimming as exercise be helpful??? Thanks!!
Yes and no : Swimming is a great exercise in general for core strength, flexibility, and cardio; that being said, exercise will not have any affect on the size of the curve itself. Thankfully, the curves are so small no treatment is required and there is no increased risk of problems with your back than the general population. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Please help with treating scoliosis . I bend forwards a little and shoulders. With back pain.
Can swimming or other exercise be of any help ?
Certainly!: You say that your scoliosis is slight. That is good, and not all the uncommon. Exercise helps most types of back pain. Make sure you start slowly and work your way up. A trainer can help, too. But just do not overdo so the muscles soreness and back pain from starting at too high an intensity makes you quit. Any exercises that improve the upper back and chest will help. Good luck, and have fun! ...Read more
I have mild scoliosis and i go swimming now, my doctor said I should strengthen my back and my abs, so what exercises to do and what to avoid in the gym?
Swimming for 2 months, now mild pain in pecs for 2 weeks, i didn't rest, could it be an injury? Or is it respiartory muscles?Btw I have mild scoliosis.
Overuse/Strength?: Most likely it's a little overuse inflammation from doing an exercise your pectoral muscles are not used to, especially if you have not rested very much. Could also just be some soreness from working out the pectorals - to get muscles stronger usually involves getting muscles sore. Mild scoliosis should not matter. Your respiratory muscles will strengthen with swimming. ...Read more

Some don't need surgery & others do. They tend to not respond to bracing & can be very progressive in terms of a rapidly worsening curve & may be associated with other medical issues. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
