Often, twisting the ankle, partially tears ligaments on the outside of it and the bruising and swelling can give a sense of numbness. The best course is to have it checked by a podiatrist. Depends: This really should be examined in person, and is not suited to a internet diagnosis. Depends on injury, was thumb jammed?
