I had intercourse 2 days ago and I'm on oral birth control. Two days later I started taking antibiotic. Can I get pregnant?

Very possible: Antibiotics may interfere with the ability of the birth control medicines to work. Sperm in the ejaculate can remain viable for a few days. Hopefully you did not get pregnant if you weren't planning on it. Birth control pills also keep your menstrual cycle regular, so if you are late take a test. Avoid further intercourse unless your partner wears a condom while still taking the antibiotics. ...Read more

I am on birth control and was taking batrim can I get pregnant? When ihad a period on june 26th/ I am on my third week of my pills and I had intercourse on the 9th

Most antibiotics OK: Some antibiotics, like rifampin, definitely interact with birth control.Others may in some individuals and with some pills. It probably depends on how your body metabolizes the drugs, and it may also depend on the dose of hormones in the pills. Most small studies don't show differences in the level of hormones in the blood, but to be on the absolutely safe side, use condoms during antibiotic use. ...Read more

I am on birth control. I had my last day of antibiotics today. I'm on the first week of BC pills. How long until I don't have to use alternate BC?

B.C. stays effective: The current thinking is that except for rifampin, other commonly-used antibiotics do not alter the effectiveness of birth control pills. This is likely presuming a person is not sick with vomiting or diarrhea, or some other condition that decreases the absorption of a swallowed pill. One can look up: http://www. Ncbi. Nlm. Nih. Next package: To be completely safe, continue your pills and rely on them after the second week of the next package after you finish the antibiotics. As you know, this is probably being excessively cautious but it is a good idea to be using condoms any way to decrease the risk of STDs. Best wishes. ...Read more

Yes.: First of all, you shouldn't relay on Implanon being effective for birth control if you have been on an antibiotic. Some say antibiotics affect birth control, some say they don't have any affect at all. What should I believe?

The former: Antibiotics can affect birth control and possibly decrease their effectiveness to 97 or 98% from 99. So even though they are still very effective, I always recommend adding condoms to sex when on antibiotics as you do not want to be in the 1%. Best wishes. ...Read more
