Can stress cause fainting?

Can stress cause fainting?

Sure can: This is the classic picture of "swooning" from screen and stage where the character, upon receiving some startling or otherwise dramatic news, faints, with dramatic music in the background, of course. In real life, this is caused by a drop in blood pressure due to a vasovagal response brought on by a strong emotional reaction. Very common and generally harmless (unless you hit your head!). ...Read more

Stress (Definition)

Stress affects most people in some way. Acute (sudden, short-term) stress leads to rapid changes throughout the body. Almost all body systems (the heart and blood vessels, immune system, lungs, digestive system, sensory organs, and brain) gear up to meet perceived danger. These stress responses could prove beneficial in a critical, life-or-death situation. Over time, however, repeated stressful situations put a strain on the body that may contribute to physical and psychological problems. Chronic (long-term) stress can have real health consequences and should be addressed like any other health concern. Fortunately, research is showing that lifestyle changes and stress-reduction techniques can help people learn ...Read more

See your doctor: Nobody can know what is going on with you just on the basis of that history - hundreds of things may cause all the symptoms you have, and they certainly may just be related to your anxiety and stress. It sounds like you need a thorough history, physical examination and probably some lab tests before anybody can give you a satisfactory answer, and potential treatment. ...Read more

Need examination: It's already been stated but I'll repeat- you deserve a thorough exam including labs & maybe other diagnostic tests. If you are taking more than 10 days per month of paracetamol then, you are at risk for Medication Overuse Headaches. You need to stop that regimen right away. If you'd like a consultation I believe I can help as a headache specialist: www.healthtap.com/drsaghafi ...Read more

In the past month I lost my appetite & 20lbs but my stomach is bigger. I'm stressed/depressed, been getting hot flashes, faint, nauseous and much more?

In the past month I lost my appetite & 20lbs but my stomach is bigger. I'm stressed/depressed, been getting hot flashes, faint, nauseous and much more?

Time for a full exam: That's a pretty intense set of complaints and it's unlikely to simply turn around on its own - whatever is wrong. You really need to have a good exam to discover the cause(s) and follow-up w/ appropriate treatment. I hope it's easier to resolve than you may fear - but 'just do it!' Best wishes! ...Read more

Endocrine?: I'd probably check some endocrine markers like your thyroid and adrenal function. Possibly a heart rate variability test (hrv or ansar) test could be helpful to see if your autonomic nervous system is fine. Sounds like your heart is solid. ...Read more

Heart ultra sound shows leaky valve .Stress test heart rate 170 at 2nd stage.Pre mature irregular beats.Almost faint when standing.Tired.Short breath?

Leaky heart valve: The symptoms of lightheadedness when standing is often related to a drop in blood pressure and/or heart rate. Since you also have fatigue and shortness of breath, as well as irregular heart beats on the stress test and a leaky valve on the echocardiogram you should be evaluated by a cardiologist. There are other tests that can be performed to help with the diagnosis. ...Read more

If I have had heart echo and stress test can I still have a heart problem? I exercise and get a faint feeling and only 37 doc says to load up on fluid and salt but I get scared to exercise bc I fear hearty disease

Fear of heart diseas: If you have been checked by a cardioloogist and told you are free of heart disease then the fear of heart disease becomes a significant problem and can cause symptoms. Talking with a psychologist or reading about getting over fears (phobia) will help you. This is a common problem--look for support groups concerning getting over fears. ...Read more
