Can Strep Throat Cause Back Pain
Hello, I have strep throat right now, and I am taking 750 mg of ciprofloxacin every 12 hours. I have severe lower back pain, what does this mean?
Strep throat: I am not certain why you are taking that particular anabiotic for strep throat. It is not first-line therapy. Perhaps there are other reasons that it was prescribed, of which I am not aware. Certainly muscle aches and pains can be associated with that type of antibiotic. My advice would be to call your doctor and advise of the symptoms and consider switching antibiotics. ...Read more
I saw a doctor yesterday and was diagnosed with pharyngitis. Still waiting for strep throat culture to come back. Pain is worst. Can hardly swallow.?
Can be other things.: Strep is not the only cause of pharyngitis. Herpes simplex, chlamydia, ebv, corynebacterium diptheriae, and many others can also cause it. That is one reason why the strep check swab is done, as well as a strep culture. Your doctor should be able to do this/should have done this rapid check so you can start treatment if positive. See your doctor soon if it gets worse for empiric treatment. ...Read more
Can strep throat cause your throat to bleed or have streaks of blood down you throat and in the back of the back?
If I had strep throat while getting blood work & my protein & globulin levels came back elevated... was strep the cause of it???
All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, if you were dehydrated when the blood sample was collected, that may explain the "high" level. It would have helped to have the actual values.

I have a fever at 100.4, achy back and legs, sore throat and mild congestion but no runny nose. Occasional mild cough. How likely is it flu or strep?
No: Reflux can be bad enough to irritate tonsils and the back of your throat. However, that is basically the same as an acid burn if you spilled it on your skin.Strep throat is caused when the strep germ invades the throat and eats away at the tissue causing injury through infection. Reflux should never cause systemic fever. If you are having trouble telling them apart a strep test can help decide. ...Read more
It Can: One of the classic signs of strep throat is small pus-filled blisters in the throat. Not only do these blisters sometimes smell bad, but it's also difficult to keep that area clean when it's sore and raw. In fact, keeping your mouth and teeth clean when you have a sore throat is also quite difficult and uncomfortable, so there's another potential cause of bad breath. ...Read more
Not likely: Streptococcal tonsillopharyngitis typically causes throat pain, difficulty swallowing, fevers, chills, fatigue, and general malaise. If you have trouble opening your mouth, it could be a dental problem or an abscess around the tonsil. See your doctor or an ENT as soon as possible. ...Read more
I have had endocarditis twice and now maybe strep throat can this cause me to get endocarditis agaiin?
Uncommon cause...: Strep throat is caused by what is called "beta hemolytic streptococcus" bacteria. It is an extremely rare cause of endocarditis. Untreated strep throat can cause other heart problems, so antibiotics are very important for you. Otherwise, it is important for you to have antibiotics before all dental procedures given your history. Any correctible heart lesions should also be fixed, if safe to do. ...Read more

3 yr old has strep throat. Looking back, she started symptoms 2 weeks before getting meds. Worried that we left it untreated for so long. Harmful?
Possibly: You have about 10 days from the first febrile response with strep to initiate treatment and stop the auto-antibody response that might trigger complications. You did not describe the symptoms, but if fever was not present you need not assume the clock started at that point. Complication rate of untreated strep runs about 1/200. Be vigilant and have her re-checked if problems arise. ...Read more
I keep getting strep throat each month on the 2nd week. I take penicillin but it always come back /: it's like the 7th time this year, help : (?
Carrier vs resistent: Many times a recurrent symptomatic strep can be resolved by a 2 step treatment, a penicillin or cephalosporin followed on the last 4 days by using rifampin. If this works, fine. If you are testing + for strep but not sick with it, you could be a carrier & the 2 step may help but not stop returning to carrier status.5 documented strep/yr will get the attention of many ent's & a tonsil removal. ...Read more

Strep throat: At age 23 it is less likely, but the major risk to not treating strep throat is the development of post-streptococcal complications like acute rheumatic fever, and rarely (more assoc with skin lesions) glomerulonephritis.
