One year old was on a soy formula and has been off for a little over a month. Been struggling with constipation since. What kind of milk would be best?
2% milk or soy milk: Some toddlers do get constipated from the casein in milk, especially if they are also getting a lot of other dairy in their diet, such as cheese and yogurt. Avoid soy: Soy "milk" is highly processed and is not good to consume - by anybody. You didn't mention how old your son is. If he is an infant he needs a properly balanced substitute if you can't breast feed him. If older he may not even need milk. You may want to consider goat milk if cow dairy is giving him problems. Clay consistency: is not really constipation. Your baby is still adjusting to life and feels discomfort when this happens. Crying for help and expressing his feelings. Discuss with your pediatrician if this persist. May need to change formula, offer some water in between feelings.
