Early treatment can result in faster healing/less swelling. 2-3 wks is the typical course of shingle attack without early treatment. Some may have persistent/prolonged postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain), but swelling will pretty much always resolve completely. Sleep in recliner may lessen swelling a bit. Yes: As far as shingles, no. You are young and the likelihood of developing post shingles pain is lower (absent any coexisting medical issues). The main concern is why did you develop shingles which tends to occur epwhen your immune system is taxed or is weak. The swollen axillary gland needs to be evaluated and possibly biopsied.
