I was diagnosed with hernia in ER last night. I am still in severe pain and am vomiting. Is this normal for a hernia? Should I go back to the dr?

Yes: To diagnose a hernia in the ER the hernia must have not been reduced or could eventually be reduced by the ER physician. If left incarcerated it results in small bowel obstruction and eventually changes leading to performation. Severe pair is a symptom of this process and may mean that if reduced, it has returned and is potentially strangulating which causes pain and vomiting. Must see surgeon. ...Read more

I have severe pain in my legs during and after I run. Enough to make me vomit. Would lidocaine patches help me?

I wouldn't do it: Lidocaine is numbing medicine, or local anesthetic. Using numbing medication would only mask a real problem that needs to be investigated. That being said, the very maximum number of patches I offer is 2 at a time. They are the size of your hand. This would not be sufficient, from what it sounds like, for the pain you have. More than two patches risk side effects and toxicity from lidocaine. ...Read more

My husband is having pain from below his belly button up to the bottom of his rib cage? His symptoms are vomiting and it's not food, severe pain.

If your husband has had this and nothing has helped he then needs a complete evaluation by his doctor. Maybe a gastroenterologist. ...Read more
