Could I have colon hydrotherapy as a substitute for the "standard" prep for a colonoscopy? Normally use enemas.
If it clears you out: The main purpose of colon prep for colonsocopy is to clean out the stool so that the camera can see the linings of your colon. The 'standard prep" works well because it has been done a gazillion times. Laxatives: It is preferable to avoid laxatives and instead increase daily fluid intake, increase your daily intake of fiber(you could also take metamucil). If you still have hard stools, take a daily stool softener like colace (docusate sodium). If still sluggish take something like senokot(has softener and gentle stimulant) daily. It Depends: It depends on how long you have been using dulcolax, if you have been using this for more than a month, then this is probably going to stay the same. Dulcolax is a stimulant laxative, and cramping is side effect, but part of its mode of action. I presume you are referring to its side effects when you mean "get used to it".
