Which abx?: If you are truly allergic to penicillin, erythromycin would work for strep infection as well unless you have had an adverse reaction to it. If your problem is primarily GI, consider taking a probiotic with antibiotic in the future. May check with allergist to find out if you are still allergic to penicillin as well. By the way, there are good biologics which are effective for Crohn's disease. ...Read more

That being said you can have a GI tract infection on top of the crohn's especially if you have been treated with antibiotics and this infection can be contagious from contact with your stool. Low risk: Crohn's disease also increases the risk of cancer. That risk is a lot higher than the risk from infliximab (Remicade). If you cannot: Reach the Medical Provider who is treating your crohns I would opine that an ER (or preferably a Walk In Unit) is indicated. In the meantime Clear Liquids only!
