Cold urticaria: Is a condition similar to what you describe, but yes I would see dermatologist. If it is cold urticaria, it is a histamine reaction to any cold exposure on the skin ...Read more

If a person has hemroids, is it normal to at times have the toilet bowl water be totally filled with bright red blood?

Hemorrhoids: A small amount of rectal or anal bleeding can look like a lot of blood when mixed with the water from the toilet; however, it is difficult to tell exactly the source. Your "hemorrhoid" may be hemorrhoidal bleeding, but could also be from other anal or rectal problems. I would strongly advice you seek medical attention and most likely you will require a some type of endoscopy to tell. ...Read more

Possible fissure: You might have a fissure which is a tear in the anal canal. This can be very painful. You should keep your stool soft with a high fiber diet and plenty of water. Please see a colorectal doctor or GI to confirm diagnosis and possibly give you a medication to improve your symptoms. ...Read more

When or should I see a dr? I been constipated last couple days, small bright red blood on toilet paper and drops of it in water. I think hemmorhoids?

Hemorrhoids: Constipation can certainly lead to hemorrhoids which is the most common cause of red blood on toilet paper. You can purchase ducolax, metamucil, MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) or another over the counter stool softener to alleviate the constipation. Be sure to drink plenty of water. If symptoms continue or you begin to experience increasing pain, see your doctor for further evaluation and treatment. ...Read more

Bright red piece in/on stool. Neither toilet water nor paper was red. What are the chances this could be blood? Could it possibly be "skin" from food?

Bright red piece in/on stool. Neither toilet water nor paper was red. What are the chances this could be blood? Could it possibly be "skin" from food?

Needs evaluation pls: Blood in stool is a warning sign. Brisk bleeding warrants emergency care. Causes of bleeding may be predictable (e.g rectal trauma), but evaluation is always appropriate. A rule of thumb (but not absolute): black stool means bleeding comes from upper GI tract; grape jelly stool from small bowel; silver stool from biliary tree; burgundy stool from right colon; red blood from left colon to anus. ...Read more

21 and went to bathroom and had a lot of bright red blood on toilet paper and in water (none in stool) I looked at my anus and saw multiple tears?

Anal fissures?: This sounds like an anal fissure, but multiple ones are atypical. Or hemorrhoids? Have you had anal sex or other possible injury to the anal area? If not, and if the problem doesn't recur and the "tears" heal promptly, all probably is OK. A stool softener would be a good idea for a few days. But if in doubt, and especially if at STD risk, see a doctor for professional evaluation. ...Read more

I am having bright red blood in the toilet after a bowel movement. Do I need to go to the e r? I feel like I am going but when done there's nothing but bright red blood in the water and after wiping

Yes.: Yes. You need to see a doctor for this right away. It may be something as simple as hemorrhoids, but it could also be much more serious.

Bleeding like you've described could represent infection, inflammation, a vascular malformation, or a tumor. Though it often stops on its own, bleeding from the bowel can sometimes become very severe and can even be life threatening. If it does stop, that does not mean that the underlying problem is gone, so you should see a doctor even if this goes away by itself. ...Read more

Proctologist: Your best bet for diagnosis and treatment is to consult a proctologist or a colorectal surgeon. You may be dealing with an anal fissure, or a perirectal dermatitis but inflammatory disease of the rectum is a possibility. For these problems I favor a skilled proctologist as he/she is very experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of anorectal diseases. ...Read more

Not likely: This sounds more like an anal fissure. These usually get better within a month if you avoid trauma to the area and constipation. If you have continued problems after that, surgery is usually very effective. See an experienced surgeon if it doesn't get better. ...Read more
