Afraid of rabies, previously vaccinated. Walking outside on bright, sunny day (no rain). Single drop of liquid fell from tree and lands directly in eye/tear-duct. Couldn't identify source of liquid. Possible bat saliva exposure or being paranoid?

Afraid of rabies, previously vaccinated. Walking outside on bright, sunny day (no rain). Single drop of liquid fell from tree and lands directly in eye/tear-duct. Couldn't identify source of liquid. Possible bat saliva exposure or being paranoid?

Paranoid: The most likely liquid falling from a tree would be water. Did it rain recently? The odds of a bat salivating in a tree on a sunny day is very very rare. Bats like dark places to rest during the day. Also, bats drooling? Also very rare. The saliva from a bat causing rabies comes from a bite, not drool. Also very rare to get rabies through the membranes of the eyes. So, please don't worry. ...Read more

If a rabid animal drank from a puddle And later I went through it and water got on my cuts will I develop rabies?

Contacting Rabies: The way u can get rabies is thru contact of saliva or brain tissue from an infected (rabid) animal. This generally happens with bites by such animals. It is extremely rare for someone to get this infection through indirect contact by being in the water body momentarily contacted by such an animal. However, since Rabies is a deadly disease prudence is warranted and u should seek medical help ASAP. ...Read more

Can rabies virus transmit by water while washing saliva from intact skin and water pass through broken skin?

Can rabies virus transmit by water while washing saliva from intact skin and water pass through broken skin?

Theoretically, yes: Theoretically it is possible to transmit the virus in saliva from an intact surface to a non-intact surface. The amount of dilution and size of the area of non-intact skin will determine the probability of transmission, in addition to the further dilution of the viral load following the recognition of contact with non-intact skin.
If in doubt, post-exposure prophylaxis should be considered. ...Read more

Could rabies transmitted by water bowl?

Could rabies transmitted by water bowl?

Rabies transmission: Per the Centers for Disease Control: The most common mode of rabies virus transmission is through the bite and virus-containing saliva of an infected host. Though transmission has been rarely documented via other routes such as contamination of mucous membranes (i.e., eyes, nose, mouth), aerosol transmission, and corneal transplants. Transmission through contaminated water would be unlikely. ...Read more

Can rabies live in a bowl of water or on bowl for more than half an hour?

Good question: As far as I can determine, the virus can only survive outside the host animal for a few seconds and then will die. It has to transmitted via bodily fluids (saliva mostly) but cases of aerosolized virus among lab workers and people how handle infected animals has occurred but is extremely rare! ...Read more

Can you get rabies from animal;that is not droolin, is not aggressive and is lying in water? My dad got bit by that kind of dog, any chance of rabies

Can you get rabies from animal;that is not droolin, is not aggressive and is lying in water? My dad got bit by that kind of dog, any chance of rabies

Yes...: Just because a dog hasn't started to demonstrate symptoms of rabies does not mean that they are not infected. Your dad should seek medical care - his physician (possibly along with local health department) will determine if there is a need for rabies vaccination. He should not delay seeking this care. If the dog is known, it should be quarantined for observation for 10 days. ...Read more

Rabies Transmission thru anus is posibleAny Cases? I used a water lick by a cat then used a water dipper to wash my anus, CatsNormal, I'm vacnated before

YourCatActingDaft?: Rabies is most often transmitted through a bite from an infected animal. Less frequently, it can be passed on when the saliva of an infected animal enters another animal's body through mucous membranes or an open wound. The risk for contracting rabies runs highest if your cat is exposed to wild animals. Your story is unlikely unless your cat is acting weird. But you best call your local Health Dept. ...Read more

How long can the rabies virus survive in pool water (salt water)?

Minimal time: Rabies virus does not live outside of a living host. It's transmitted by the infected saliva from a bite going into the next victim. I would not be too worried about getting it from swimming. Major carrier in states is often bats. If you fished one out of the pool it's unlikely to have left the virus behind. ...Read more

We had a raccoon die in out koi pond (like the size of a knee deep kiddie pool) if it had rabies is the water now contaminated with rabies?

We had a raccoon die in out koi pond (like the size of a knee deep kiddie pool) if it had rabies is the water now contaminated with rabies?

Lots of VERY REMOTE: Possibilities here: first, you don't know if the raccoon had rabies. If he did, and he drooled or his saliva contaminated the water, the rabies virus might be present there in a VERY small concentration. Then to be infected this water would have to get directly in a person's eyes, nose, mouth or open wound. HIGHLY UNLIKELY. I would clean out the koi pond and not worry any more. Good wishes:) ...Read more

There is a dead animal (apossom) in my yard. I removed it and disinfected the area with bleach and water. If it has rabies, can I be infected with it?

Rare in opossum: Rabies, extremely rare in the opossum, is usually transmitted through saliva introduced by a bite. It can also be acquired when infected tissue touches skin that had cuts, scratches. If you are concerned, please seek medical care right away, especially if you handled the animal without gloves. In general it is not wise to handle a dead animal without precautions such as gloves and mask check http://opossumsocietyus. Can I get rabies from water drops from melting snow on my roof, I swallowed while staying on my window and i''m curious if there is a % to get rabies?

Life is about risk: Many things are possible in life. The percentage chance of the average person getting rabies from swallowing snow-melt drip from his rooftop is 0%, mathematically speaking. No worries, unless your roof is home to all the bats and raccoons in the neighborhood. Beware of falling icicles from tall buildings, as they're more likely to get you than is rabies from the rooftop snow-melt. ...Read more
