My psychiatrist just increased my Prozac (fluoxetine) from 20 to 40 mg today. How likely are side effects, especially seizures?

Talk w/ psychiatrist: The right one to ask is the doctor who is treating you. This is a good general rule of thumb. It is part of your treatment and you are being responsible to ask. They need to know from you your medical history and all drugs you take and how you did at 20mg. Don't worry, just call the office to ask. ...Read more

Take many meds like tegretol and Prozac. I have very vivid dreams is this a side effect of seizure/anxiety meds? If yes why do the crazy dreams happen

It can be: Talk w/ your Dr about these experiences. Both your conditions and the medication could be involved and hopefully you can get back to sleep to avoid a deficit. There are various theories about dream content and none are certain. Brain activity responds to the electro-chemistry and it generates images that we can interpret thru our life history. Was rxed tramadol for chest pains at ER yesterday. I stopped taking Prozac (fluoxetine) over 2 weeks ago.would I still be at risk for serotonin syndrome or seizure?

Not likely: Prozac (fluoxetine) usually clears from the body by two weeks. You are not likely to experience serotonin syndrome at this time. Tramadol by itself, however, can lower the seizure threshold making you at risk to have a seizure. If you are not taking it on an ongoing basis, you are safe. Hope this helps. Best wishes! ...Read more

Hello. I experiencing brainzaps, without stop taking my fluoxetine. Is it epileptic seizures? They are triggered by temperature changes.

Not the fluoxetine: I don't believe that this is coming from your fluoxetine. The most likely source is indeed your seizure disorder. I would recommend you checking with your neurologist to see if they can't get that under slightly better control. Best wishes. ...Read more

Was on celexa for 13 years. Titrated to Prozac (fluoxetine) but caused bad side effects. Can I go back to celexa and be normal again or will it not work the same?

Data not available: The only ssri for which we have such data is prozac (fluoxetine). That type of data are not available for celexa. Having said that however I suspect that it is likely the same case for the other ssri's based on my clinical experience. Best wishes. ...Read more
