Pantoprazole vs. Omeprazole? Which is it best for non ulcer dyspepsia? Which is safest/less contraindications/side effects?
Depends.: These are the same class of medications and should theoretically work just the same. However different people tend to respond differently to them. You need to do a trial of each and see what makes you feel better (that would be the one that's best for you). It's kind of like what apple is best....depends on what your taste buds like...in this case it's what your dyspepsia likes. ...Read more
Been on Prilosec for a while but I've been getting more indigestion lately even on it. Is there a better med I could take that's more effective?
Possibly: Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)/ indigestion breaking through an adequate dose of a strong medication like Prilosec should prompt a visit to a Gastroenterologist. Sometimes a higher dose or a medication that provides a physical barrier, like Carafate, (sucralfate) can help, but the doctor will want to rule out ulcer, bacterial infection (helicobacter pylori) and other unusual problems like cancer. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Needs repeat: At your age, will need repeating the biopsy in another month or so to be sure that your don't have eosinophilic esophagitis. How do I get rid of heartburn? For the past 2 weeks, My heartburn & stomach upset has been basically constant even though I take Prilosec most days.
Proper use of Antaci: We have many antacids that can relieve Heart burn. It is important to use the antacids properly in terms of dose (40mg is better than 20mg, check which dose are you taking?). The benefit of drugs like Prilosec lasts only for 24 hours, so you have to take it daily...otherwise you will have incomplete relief. To make it more effective, take it 1 or 2 hours before dinner time. Cut down on fried foods. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

How to wean off prilosec without causing horrible heartburn. Its no longer working for me and want off it. Please help!
Different questions: The way I read the question is that Prilosec is no longer providing relief and you would like to try something else, maybe stronger. Meds in the same class that may work better are Lansoprazole, Pantoprazole or Esomeprazole. The most important thing is that your treating physician should be aware of your symptoms. Depending on previous work up and detailed history you may need a repeat endoscopy. ...Read more
