Can prenatal vitamins help with female hair loss?

Can prenatal vitamins help with female hair loss?

Doubtful, but ...: Not likely, but i would continue them. Hair loss after pregnancy (telogen effluvium) is common and the result of an arrested phase of hair growth. It may also occur after periods of stress or illness. It is considered harmless and usually resolves after 3-4 months. Nevertheless, prenatal vitamins are likely to be helpful in many ways, especially if you are postpartum and breastfeeding. ...Read more

Hair Loss (Definition)

Hair loss, otherwise known as alopecia, can be caused by different reasons, including damage to the hair shaft or follicles or fungal infections. There are two main types of alopecia. Alopecia areata occurs when the body's immune system attacks hair follicles and causes hair to fall out. Androgenetic (or androgenic) alopecia, on the other hand, is an inherited form of hair loss. With alopecia areata, hair can fall out in patches all over the body. With androgenetic alopecia, hair on the head first thins and then falls out. In men, this is called male pattern hair loss; in women, it is called ...Read more

Hair loss. : If you’re continuing in family planning mode, then resume the prenatal vitamins. If not, then the hair and nails formulation would suffice. Regardless, the hair loss is expected, as you mentioned, and is related to rapid hormonal changes that occur at delivery. These changes occur quickly and self-correct very slowly. ...Read more

Can I take prenatal vitamins for hairloss I recently had a baby 4 months ago and my hair been falling like leaves on tree!?

Alopcia after childb: Alopecia ( hairloss) after childbirth is rare, however it could happen if you had a rather difficult delivery or you have post-partum depression. Taking your prenatal vitamins probably would not help with alopecia but would not hurt anything either. Alpecia may be related to hormonal imbalance and it may be a good idea to check with your physician to explore possiblt thyroid or pituitary problems. ...Read more

More and more data is coming out showing the potential adverse effects of taking vitamin and mineral supplements and that large doses can be detrimental - a much more common problem in this country than vitamin deficiency. ...Read more

You : You may have telogen effluvium, a condition where your hair falls out in clumps post-partum (after delivery of a child). If it is telogen effluvium, the hair will come back, as you are losing hairs that are in the telogen- or resting phase. Only time can treat telogen effluvium. Nevertheless, you should seek out a specialist for a proper evaluation- i would suggest a dermatologist.

Congratulations on your delivery! ...Read more

No: As long as a person is eating a healthy balanced diet, taking a daily multivitamin + minerals tablet, and doesn't have any underlying serious vitamin deficiency, then adding additional vitamins should not make any difference regarding hair loss. For male-pattern baldness, a primary care doctor can evaluate to see if rogaine (minoxidil) or Propecia can be of help. ...Read more

Women's hair loss. Take women's vitamin; don't want to over do it on anything. Hairdresser & med student anesthesia..Can do it. It's been almost a yr.?

Lots of reasons: Go see your family doc and even get a referral to a dermatologist specializing in hair loss. First, remember that stress can lead to hair loss. Child birth & hospitalization are classic causes of stress but so is surgery. Hair eventually comes back several months later. Thyroid disease can do this too. So can too much testosterone & its derivative, dihydrotestosterone. So get tested and see derm. ...Read more
