Can Pregnant Women Take Excedrin
Do not take: Do Not take any product with Aspirin in pregnancy unless your OB is giving it for specific problems (ie risk of preeclampsia or clotting disorder). It is NOT safe otherwise, increasing the risk of fetal or maternal bleeding. Also, excessive intake of Acetaminophen increases the risk of maternal liver disease. ...Read more
When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more
I know it's not safe to take Excedrin while pregnant but everyone tells me diff reasons why .. What is the exact reason(s) why it's bad for baby!?
Excedrin: Excedrin Migraine, which is the same as regular Excedrin, contains three ingredients. One is Tylenol (acetaminophen), which is safe to take during pregnancy. The second is aspirin, which is not recommended during pregnancy. The third is caffeine, and Excedrin has about the same caffeine as a cup of coffee can have at its weakest. Aspirin interferes with your blood's clotting action. As a result, taking aspirin during pregnancy — especially after 32 weeks — can contribute to maternal and fetal bleeding. Aspirin and ibuprofen can also cause the premature closure of a vessel in a baby's heart, which can lead to high blood pressure in the baby's lungs (pulmonary hypertension), and prolong labor. ...Read more

I took 2 excedrin and I am 11 weeks and 5 days pregnant. I didn't know this could harm my baby. Is there anything that I can do to ensure my baby is not harmed?
No, but relax!: There is very little chance that 2 Excedrin once will harm the baby. Almost none. (There are no guarantees in pregnancy or anything else.) Birth defects happen quite often, without taking anything at all, and can be impossible to predict or prevent. It is a great idea to avoid unnecessary meds and only take those recommended by your doc. Eat properly, no smoking, alcohol, recr. drugs. ...Read more
Pain medicine, neurologists do you recommend Excedrin for migraines while pregnant? How about Excedrin in general?
Not a good idea: Nsaid's in general can cause changes in the fetal circulation that can lead problems (closes the ductus arterios). This can be benefical after delivery to close the d.A. But is detrimental before delivery. Tylenol (acetaminophen) is ok, basically but you need to check with your OB for specifics. ...Read more
I am 13 weeks pregnant and I have a hard time swallowing pills sp I crushed up an excedrin 6 hours ago. Is it OK to do that?
Options: Excedrin is not the best choice for pregnant women as it contains aspirin. Sometimes Aspirin is prescribed during pregnancy for specific conditions so a one time use is not a cause for concern. Tylenol (acetaminophen) is the safest choice for headaches in pregnancy. Local pharmacist can always tell you which medications are safe to be crushed. Your doctor can prescribe many medications in liquid form. ...Read more
Severe migraine for several days, no med, no remedy works, should I take Excedrin (acetaminophen, aspirin), any side effects, age 28, 140 lbs, female?
How Much Excedrin?: A more important issue is how ofter you take the excedrin. You may be causing rebound headaches which in many ways are more difficult to treat than migraine. Feverfew is a popular herb that seems to prevent migraine.I am not aware of any major interactions as does st. John's wort, for example. It is probably more important to limit your excedrin than worry about the feverfew interactions. ...Read more
Not the PM version.: Excedrin PM contains diphenhydramine, AKA Benadryl, which can make you sleepy. Xanax (alprazolam) also can make you sleepy, so I would avoid that combination. The other Excedrin formulations, like Excedrin Migraine or Excedrin Extra Strength should be OK. ...Read moreSee 4 more doctor answers
