Can you take Benadryl allergy with Mucinex Cold, Flu, & Sore Throat? Think I have a sinus infection.

Yes you can: but don't exceed recommended dose for either and read the labels carefully. Good that you asked, always exercise caution with multiple medications. If this combination doesn't work, you may need to see your doctor for assessment and possibly prescription medications, best wishes ...Read more

Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

Would it be possible that a pregnant woman take benadryl/antihistamine to treat an allergic reaction or help allergy induced asthma?

Would it be possible that a pregnant woman take benadryl/antihistamine to treat an allergic reaction or help allergy induced asthma?

Yes & No: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is considered safe in pregnancy & may be used to treat allergic conditions like allergic rhinitis or hives. Antihistamines like Benadryl are not effective for itching not associated with a rash. This can be due to pregnancy-related liver problems. Talk to your OB about that. Benadryl is also not effective for asthma. There are safe asthma drugs to use while pregnant. ...Read more

Risk?: There is no safety data on pregnancy but I am unaware of any reported fetal issues associated with its use. Thus whether you should take the risk would depend on the stage of pregnancy (less in the last 3 months) and the risk/benefit ratio of other options. You need to discuss with your OB doc re. The pros and cons. ...Read more

I have a gluten allergy & if I eat pasta I'll break out in hives. I have to keep Benadryl (diphenhydramine) & an epi pen w/ me. I'm pregnant & craving raviolis...help!

Gluten free pasta: Try gluten free pasta! There are lots of alternatives now that use rice/quinoa flours. The only problem is that they're a little more expensive, but hey, pregnancy is an expensive, constraining condition. Best of luck! ...Read more

How often can I take benedryl, for allergies every what hours if 7 months pregnant?

How often can I take benedryl, for allergies every what hours if 7 months pregnant?

Four: Diphenhydramine (generic of benadryl) 25 mg, 1 tab, every 4 hours, is the usual starting dose. If you are not controlled and not sedated you can increase to 2 tabs every 4 hours. A better alternative is Cetirizine 10 mg, 1 tab, once day. Studies show Cetirizine 10 mg, once a day is therapeutically equivalent to Diphenhydramine 25 mg, 3-4x/day with much less, if any, sedation. ...Read more

8 mnths pregnant with bad allergies is it ok if I take bendryl ? If so hw often witg seasional allergies I need relief

8 mnths pregnant with bad allergies is it ok if I take bendryl ? If so hw often witg seasional allergies I need relief

Yes but better meds: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is safe but sedating and has to be taken every 4-6 hours. Cetirizine (generic zyrtec) is safe in pregnancy, especially at 8 months, causes minimal, if any sedation and only has to be taken once a day. Usual dose of 10 mg at bedtime is as effective as Benadryl (diphenhydramine) 25 mg, 3-4 times per day. ...Read more

I am pregnant and having a severe bout of allergies im 21 weeks and have already taken zyrtec (cetirizine) and tylonal sinus today. can I take benedryl before bed?

Rhinitis: You may be very well experiencing Rhinitis of Pregnancy. The circulating hormones can cause the turbinates (fleshy baffles in nose) to swell. Nasal steroids such as Flonase/ Nasonex (mometasone) etc can help. This regimen will also help with allergic rhinitis. ...Read more

I'm 7 months pregnant and have chronic urticaria and angieodema. I used to take at lease 500mg of benadryl (diphenhydramine). What is the max limit for a pregnant woman?

50 mg?: Did you mean 50 mg of benadryl (diphenhydramine)? I have never heard of 500 mg ever being used to treat any condition. 50 mg of Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is considered the usual adult maximum dose and many pregnant women have used this dosing. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is a category b pregnancy drug which means it has a low likelihood of harming the fetus, but randomized controlled studies have not been performed. ...Read more

Is it safe for a pregnant woman in her 3rd trimester to take Benadryl (diphenhydramine) while also taking Metronidozale? As well as the occasional Zofran?

Probably: I ran the drug interaction, and there is a small chance of heart rhythm side effect, but I would say this combination is fairly safe. The recommendation is just to monitor for symptoms of side effect: feeling abnomal heart beat, dizzy, fainting. ...Read more

Which Nyquil?: at any rate all Nyquils contain an antihistamine, so you don't want to combine them with benadryl, (diphenhydramine) unless you have got a really severe allergic reaction. Combination would cause more side effects as drowsiness, so be careful, good luck ...Read more

Should I take Benadryl (diphenhydramine) or zyrtec for a cat allergy?

Should I take Benadryl (diphenhydramine) or zyrtec for a cat allergy?

Either, though...: Zyrtec is approved for animal allergy. Claritin and Allegra approved for seasonal (pollen) allergy, not pets, though certainly they'd work to some degree as well. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) will work; and though a good proportion will get groggy or sleepy, you may be a person who can tolerate it, and could be more effective than Zyrtec. I wouldn't drive on Benadryl (diphenhydramine) though - it slows reaction times. ...Read more
