Azithromycin is a...: Category b drug which means there are no controlled studies studying its use during pregnancy. It does, however, appear to be safe but should be used only when the benefit outweighs the risk. ...Read more

Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

No cold medication: Z-pack & cold medication together more commonly causes arrhythmia problem. I am a Doc, but I think sucking Zinc lozengers goodfor cold. Colds dont usually require antibiotics unless U R producing yellow-green nasal D/C. Better not to choose Z-pack, could use Cefzil(Generic). Afrin or Neosynephrine clear UR nasal passages, but effect lasts few days unless U use Fluticasone as well. F/U w MD. ...Read more

Cough & pregnancy: Your cough could be due to upper respiratory infection, acid reflux, postnasal drip, etc. Identify the cause, and try treating it. Most cough medicines are not recommended during pregnancy. But could certainly try saline nasal rinsing. If acid reflux is causing cough, you may want to avoid food triggers. Zantac is category b, and you could consider taking it. Check with your doctor. ...Read more

Took a z-pack during my period week. Period ended the 27th, z-pack ended the 1st. Started normal birth control on the 28th. Had sex 4th. Pregnant?

Took a z-pack during my period week. Period ended the 27th, z-pack ended the 1st. Started normal birth control on the 28th. Had sex 4th. Pregnant?

Don't know: I had trouble tracking all this info. But one thing did stick out - if your started oral contraceptives on the 28th and then went on to have sex on the 4th (; it was not your period) then you were likely not protected. Some oral contraceptives need to be taken for a month before they are fully effective. Other contraceptives can be started on day #1 of period. Sounds like you didn't use backup. ...Read more

Had sex on BC pill in first week while taking a z-pack now experiencing tightness/cramping in lower abs for days, breast tenderness. Pregnant %?

BC pill should work: Generally, a Zithromax Z-pak does not change the effectiveness of birth control pills. One can do a home urine pregnancy test, if worried. A test, done correctly, gives a reliable result 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have occurred), or 1 week after missing a period. If done sooner, a positive result is likely real, but a negative result may be due to testing too early. ...Read more

Is it ok to take a z pack pill less than 24hours later?

Stick to instruct: It's best to stick to the instructions with the z-pack. The dosing and timing is meant to allow a fairly constant, and set, amount of antibiotics to be maintained in your system. This set dosing allows for maximum effectiveness against the bacterial infection. If you take the z-pack pill a few hours before or after the 24 hour mark, this isn't a big deal. But stay within 4-6 hours of the mark. ...Read more

Allergic to keflex. Can i take a z-pack safely?

Allergic to keflex. Can i take a z-pack safely?

YES: They are of different chemical families, so the z pack shouldn't cross react. It may, however, upset your stomach, so be prepared. Very recent evidence has shown a relationship between zithromax and some cardiac conditions, but we know all drugs have some side affects in some patients. Good luck. ...Read more
