Prob ok: Unless you had sex without condoms or birth control after your abortion then the pregnancy test is still detecting left over hormone from the previous pregnancy. Recheck it once and week until it resolves. Start birth control to prevent another unplanned pregnancy. ...Read more

If you have a missed abortion without your knowledge would a pregnancy test still be positive?

If you have a missed abortion without your knowledge would a pregnancy test still be positive?

Residual Hcg in Body: A missed abortion is a miscarriage that has been diagnosed by ultrasound that your body has not yet expelled; it's a failed pregnancy that has been "missed." Hcg starts to drop after the placenta stops growing, preg test positive still ...Read more

I had a surgical abortion 6week ago and i took a pregnancy test today and its still positive. Is ir normal?

I had a surgical abortion 6week ago and i took a pregnancy test today and its still positive. Is ir normal?

Yes.: Hormone levels decrease by about 1/2 every 48 hours. Because they are so very high during the first trimester, and the tests available today are so sensitive, it is certainly possible to have a positive screen for as long as 60 days. If you engaged in unprotected sex, you could be pregnant again, so you should get quantitative blood testing to confirm what is going on. ...Read more

See your GYN: It is best to see your GYN so he/she can draw labwork - specifically serial quantitative serum HCGs (pregnancy hormone) to see if the levels are decreasing. If the chemical abortion was effective, the HCG levels should be coming down. ...Read more

I had an abortion 3 months ago and i took a pregnancy test today on 1/24/2013 that was positive, am i pregnant or is the hormone still in my system?

Likely New Pregnancy: Three months after a D&C your HCG levels should be <2. Unless you have retained tissue or a molar pregnancy which has turned into gtn (gestational trophoblastic neoplasia), both which are fairly rare after surgical evacuation of the uterus. Check with your OB & most likely your HCG levels are increasing c/w a new pregnancy. You would know if birth control was used & if you had exposures. Good luck. ...Read more
