Poss spasmodic croup: Depending on how frequently these episodes occur, and in association with what triggers, you could have spasmodic croup. Spasmodic croup is alleviated by prednisone. If the cough is more persistent, and refractory, you should have a workup to determine the etiology. Smoking is probably not helping, so I would try quitting that first and foremost.

Prednisone (Definition)

Prednisone is a synthetic cortisone. The body makes cortisone, a natural hormone made in adrenal glands. The body converts it to Hydrocortisone to become active. 25 mg of cortisone has about same effect as 5 mgm prednisone. The average person would produce 3-6 mg of pred daily. So why use a substitute? The synthetic has more anti-inflammatory effect; but has less effect ...Read more

Had allergic reaction to Minocycline. Hives, heartburn, chills, feeling ill. Took prednisone/benadryl. Hives gone for 4 days, why am I still itchy?

Inflammation: ! st drug such as minocycline tends to linger on in the tissue longer. 2nd the inflammation triggered by the drug takes 1-2 weeks to resolve even after the drug has been discontinued. Think of it as a deep scratch on your skin, it won't heal immediately just because you have stopped scratching it.

Is normal to experience heartburn/ minor chest pain when tapering down off prednisone?

Is normal to experience heartburn/ minor chest pain when tapering down off prednisone?

Gastritis: prednisone is famous for causing gastritis and stomach ulceration. I suggest calling your treating physician and getting a PPI medication to inhibit stomach acid production (Nexium (esomeprazole) or Prilsoec) - low dose versions of these medicines are sold OTC.

Is heartburn a typical side effect of Prednisone? Taken w omeprazole and last 2 times still bad gerd, unusual for me

Prednisone: Or any cortisone derivative medication has upper gastrointestinal effects and heartburn, upper GI pain are common. Omeprazole is NOT and ACUTE treatment thus unless you take it regularly it may not help! An H-2 Blocker (eg: PEPCID (famotidine) AC) may offer sopme protective value as will TAKING THE PERDNISONE WITH MILK!!!! Hope this helpsd! Dr Z

What else causes frequent severe heartburn besides gerd?

What else causes frequent severe heartburn besides gerd?

Studies have shown: That the differential diagnosis of heartburn symptoms is quite broad, but according to Dr. Harmon and others in Therapeutic Advances in Gastroenterology, there are five major causes: Medications, functional dyspepsia, GERD, peptic ulcer disease, and cancer. GERD may have no symptoms of heartburn whatsoever. Here is a review to read: http://tinyurl. Com/nqnv9qr

Can steroid (prednisone) withdrawal cause severe headaches?

Can steroid (prednisone) withdrawal cause severe headaches?

Yes, but: Stopping steroids abruptly can cause headache, aching, fatigue, & feeling of weariness. More likely if you have been on steroids for over 2 weeks. Check with your doctor to see if you should be tapered more slowly off the steroids to avoid these symptoms. But, if this headache feels different than any other previous experiences; or note confusion, weakness or worst headache of your life--go to er.

Currently taking 40mg omeprazole 4 gerd, recently, have excessive acid (ea) which results in severe heartburn even with ppi. What can causes for ea b?

Timing: How are you taking the omeprazole? It should be taken on an empty stomach with nothing to eat or drink for at least 30 minutes after. If you aren't taking it this way that can reduce to the effectiveness. Otherwise, you may need to see your doctor or a gastroenterologist.

Is it possible for someone with vasculitis to have an increase of monocytes? If so, what types of diseases would be the cause? Symptoms: fever, fatigue, severe back neck and shoulder pain, responds to high dose prednisone, decrease appetite. Negative bone

Yes,: Yes, elevated monocytes can be elevated in some types of vasculitis. Monocytes can also be elevated in chronic infections. I am glad that you have had a negative bone marrow study. High sedimentation rate can go along with inflammatory or infectious causes. It sounds like your hematologist is performing a thorough workup.

Can a tonsillectomy cause severe GERD symptoms? Prior to the surgery I had occasional reflux. Now it's severe. Any correlation?

Can a tonsillectomy cause severe GERD symptoms? Prior to the surgery I had occasional reflux. Now it's severe. Any correlation?

Study in progress: The hypothesis is that many patients have silent laryngopharyngeal reflux and by reducing the acid entrance into the oropharynx, patients will have less post tonsillectomy pain due to decreased acid irritation of the surgical wound (tonsil fossas). Are you taking a PPI currently? Ref. Https://clinicaltrials. Gov/ct2/show/NCT01777854

I have severe GERD that causes me to frequently lose my voice. I'm taking two diff ppis but still losing my voice. What else can I do?

Other treatment: I suggest you see a gastroenterologist to discuss additional options to control reflux. You may have to consider surgical options. For now, continue taking your ppis and be judicious with diet precautions. Good luck!

GERD: I have chest pain caused by GERD that is sometimes severe. What can I do to relieve this pain? I have had an endoscopy and it showed no underlying p ANS: If no one has suggested it I recommend putting 6 inch blocks under the head of your bed. You can get them at Bed Bath and Beyond of DIY stores. This keeps acid from running into your esophagus which causes the pain. Works quickly and well.

Can my anxiety and severe depression affect my gerd?, cause I feel like it does as if they are somehow connected.

Can my anxiety and severe depression affect my gerd?, cause I feel like it does as if they are somehow connected.

Yes: Anxiety and depression can affect gerd significantly. The area with the largest concentration of serotonin is actually in your gut. Therefore any anxiety you experience is felt as "butterflies" in your stomach. However, at the same time, the medication used for anxiety and depression can also cause gerd.

Is it possible for GERD to cause chills and gnawing/hunger/nausea type feelings as well as severe fatigue?

GERD: Alone is unlikely to cause these symptoms. Sounds like you need a complete Upper GI evaluation! Hope this helps! Dr Z
