Pink Eye: Pink eye is a problem. It is only a term that says the eyes are reddish pink. Usually due to a mild viral infection, the eyes may become "reddish pink" in other severe conditions, like uveitis, acute glaucoma. Therefore, a diagnosis by an ophthalmologist is essential. I have seen patients who have been diagnosed with "pink eye" in emergency rooms. Iritis was the correct diagnosis. In short yes! .
When I blew my nose some bubble discharge came out of the corner of my left eye. Can this cause pink eye?
Might/not: The tear duct drains tear fluid from the inner corner of your eye through a long tubular drain that hugs the inside wall of the nose before emptying near it's base. It usually does not allow air to vent upwards but a forceful sneeze or blow could allow it. It might push germs up that could cause pinkeye but tear fluid has enzymes that suppress them. If it happens treat it, if not, ignore it.
Bacterias present in Cover Ear Headphones, can cause pink eye, if make contact with the ear skin in a pillow and then the eyes for example?
Yes and not always: Germs that may or may not cause a variety of problems are present on any surface that comes in contact with human skin. There are enzymes in the tears that suppress germ invasion of those spaces. Bacterial or viral pinkeye are caused when the living germs access that surface and multiplies. It usually transfers from fingers but can invade from air or the nasal passages up the tear duct.
Spent all day crying yestrdy. I woke up today with my lower eyelids puffy swollen and crusty, and a little itchy. Can excess crying cause pink eye?
Eyelid edema: Following intense emotional situations with crying, runny nose, and lots of wiping eyelids and nose secretions, the eyelids often swell, eyes look red, and the ocular surface may be slightly irritated. Mucous is generated by the eye in response to the irritation. Sometimes contamination can be introduced into the eye with all the wiping. Not usually an infection results, but if worse, see eye doc.
Sometimes: Eyes that look red (so-called "pink-eye") can be due to many things including bacterial and viral infections, allergies, inflammations, etc. Typically allergic conjunctivitis produces itch. Itching is occasionally noted with bacterial and viral conjunctivitis as well, but less commonly. Blepharitis can produce itching on the lid margins.
Rare: Most pink eyes are spread from others with pink eye and include bacterial and viral origin. I can imagine that fecal matter might cause an infection but have difficulty imagining how it got into the eye. I do not recommend trying this.
