Recurrent pneumonia question. What makes it come back? Could there be a tumor?

Mnay things: This requires medical evaluation by a doctor, several possibilities. A list would include: a error in diagnosis, for example congestive heart failure, & inflammatory diseases of the lungs can mimic recurrent pneumonia. Diagnosed with pneumonia yesterday, on a z pack. Doc says to come back in 48 hrs if not better. Should I be at 50%, 100%. I'm still wheeziing/coughing?

Possibly: Though zithromax is a good antibiotic to use for empiric therapy of pneumonia, it does not work 100 percent of the time. That said, two days is a bit early to notice a big difference. Even after the germs are killed, there is residual inflammation that must heal. If you are significantly worse, you should be seen; if you are not improved but no worse, then be patient with it. ...Read more

What do the experts think, should my inflammation come back if I did not finish the entire bottle of antibiotics?

What do the experts think, should my inflammation come back if I did not finish the entire bottle of antibiotics?

Finish them all: If given antibiotics you need to continue even if you feel better. Why? Two reasons
1. You may not have killed all the bacteria yet and they can reproduce and bring symptoms back
2. If you don't kill all of them the bacteria that survive will be more resistant or even immune to the antibiotic, that antibiotic then may be useless to you in the future. ...Read more

Can you think of any reason why blood cultures would come back with negative results within 2 hours even though antibiotics not commenced until hours after the results have come back.

Can you think of any reason why blood cultures would come back with negative results within 2 hours even though antibiotics not commenced until hours after the results have come back.

Unclear question: If the blood culture results were reported within 2 hours, then it could not have bee culture, as that takes at least 24 hours, longer depending on the type of organism and microbial load. It was probably some other test like CRP, not blood culture, that was reported within two hours of blood collection. It may help to talk to the pathologist in-charge of the laboratory. ...Read more

I had a abcess on the appendix been on antibiotics for 10 days after comeing out of hospital will it come back?

Always a possibility: Though likely low odds. Most people have heard of appendicitis, assume simple issue, yet most surgeons believe they must operate on >4 people for every 3 who appear to have appendix problems (at open surgery), including in our age of CT Scans, etc. (Many not told appendicitis not actual issue after the fact, etc.) Thus difficult to answer. If immune system not resolve abscess, then might recur. ...Read more

How long does it take for a polinidal cyst to come back after being popped and negative cultures. With antibiotic treatment. ?

Sometimes, never.: Pilonidal cysts are areas of chronic inflammation overlying the tailbone that arise due to ingrown hairs under the skin. These are prone to infections that form abscesses, requiring incision and drainage ("lancing"). Surgical excision is reserved for those that require repeated lancing, since these may recur as often as 25% of the time even after surgery. Fortunately, these are rare after age 30. ...Read more

Dr. Did prostate rectal exam. It was painful n burning. He said he will wait or hold on antibiotics prescription till I come back in 3 months. Why? What do you think he suspected?

Prostatitis: If the physician felt that the prostate gland was tender when he palpated it, he suspected an inflamed gland (prostatitis) which is usually treated with antibiotics. On the other hand, the exam may have simply been uncomfortable either because of poor technique or inadequate relaxation. I don't think that He would wait 3 months if he strongly suspected an infected gland. ...Read more

Some can remain embedded near their original site for decades, and shed occasionally, without noticeable symptoms. No antibiotics will eradicate them. Had a cough since beginning of December, went for a week, it's come back again. Blocked nose for three weeks, had antibiotics but not helped. Help xx?

Nasal congestion: Consider intra-nasal antihistamine like astelin (in US) and oral antihistamine (fexofenadine)to decrease nasal drainage as the drainage is causing/ exacerbating the cough (dripping). Would elevate head of bed and also check if have reflux as GERD/ reflux exacerbate a cough by irritating the lungs/ sinuses during reflux. I did a biopsy in june it came back cervictis cause by trichmonis. I have a pap smear tomorrow what happen if the pap come back abnormal will they do another biopsy or gave me more antibiotic. Help?

No: Your letter suggests that you have received antibiotics for the trichomonas infection. If so, the pap smear may return to normal. Your biopsy in june reported an inflammation of the cervix, not pre-cancer cells that a pap smear aims to detect. Another biopsy is unlikely.
