Possible: Histoplasmosis and granulomas more common in midwest. Comparison with old x-rays or ct is very helpful. New multiple lesions, and growth of lesions inclines to cancer.

Lung (Definition)

Deoxygenated blood enters the lungs from the right side of the heart and travels to the lungs. When you inspire, oxygen flows into the lungs, transverses the capilliares and attaches to hemoglobin down a gradient. At the same time, co2 diffuses into the capilaries and is expelled with exhalation. Oxygen rich blood then flows to the left side of the heart and into the ...Read more

Do you believe that absestos can cause a lung nodule?

Yes: Is the short answer. Asbestos can cause several different changes to the chest and lung fields. Pulmonary nodules are just one example. Pleural disease including plaques and calcification as well as mesothelioma are side affects of asbestos. Lung cancer is also a problem. Don't ignore this nodule. Talk to your doctor.

If a person smoked, does that cause cancerous lung nodules?

Modules: Smoking increases the risk of developing cancerous lesions. But not every nodule in current or past smokers is cancerous. Every nodule must however be considered cancer until it has been appropriately monitored or biopsied to rule out cancer.

Benign or malignant: Multiple possibilities. It's critical to obtain a thorough evaluation. All patients found to have a lung nodule should be referred to a comprehensive multidisciplinary thoracic surgical oncology program. Is it better to be safe than sorry, when one has a lung nodule 1.4 2.7 suv and get it removed or wait and perhaps cause more problems. Surgery seems so?

It depends: It depends on the patients medical history, smoking history, whether or not the nodule has grown over time, and what exactly it looks like. The patient's peace of mind is a factor as well. If a patient feels strongly that he would like a lung nodule removed that should factor into the equation also.

Truthful answer please, can an suv 2.7 be caused by an infection in a lung nodule?

Yes: I know I have answered a number of your questions about this nodule and I hope you are well! Don't forget we are not really treating you. My best advice is to find a non-virtual doctor with whom you have good rapport, and decide together with that doctor what to do in real life.

What symptoms can a benign lung nodule cause, and whether it causes blockage and effect on breathing?

What symptoms can a benign lung nodule cause, and whether it causes blockage and effect on breathing?

Mostly none: In general, lung nodules benign and malignant are asymptomatic (without symptoms). That said, benign is more likely associated with infection. Thus symptoms such as infection and pneumonia may be present; fever, cough, etc.... Other symptomatic nodules may be from sarcoidosis. There is a large list of symptoms with sarcoid.

You're still alive: If the nodule was found ten years ago, and you had no illness as a result, then this is not cancer. If it were cancer, you might have a pretty good case. I'm glad it's not. Asbestosis itself presents as diffuse thickening of the lung texture, or of the pleural surfaces. Most lung nodules in non-smokers (hope that's you) are old histoplasmosis, which is harmless. Thanks for your service.

Can breathing mold cause lung nodules? I have multiple small nodules <9mm.

It can, however: Exposure to mold and lung nodules may not be related. You obviously have seen a doctor to know that you have lung nodules. It would be prudent to consult a pulmonary medicine doctor.

How common are lung nodules and if you have a few and it is not cancer what causes them can it also be from inflammtion?

How common are lung nodules and if you have a few and it is not cancer what causes them can it also be from inflammtion?

Very common: Lung nodules are very common, especially in the midwest, where you are from. A lung nodule can be a scar from any sort of infection that happened previously. Some times, they can be an early lung cancer. Usually, if they are found, they should be followed for at least 2 years to make sure they do not grow. This is especially true if the patient smokes. There are protocols for following nodules.

Many types of tumor: If a lung lesion was noted as solitary and no previous history of underlying disease with bx of mesothelioma then Asbestos has been associated with such lung lesions. Squamous Ca usually derived from smoking and adenoCa from a viral source. At this time worth while to get PET/CAT to assure all path absent from lung or metastatic foci.
