Can Pinched Nerve Cause Chest Pain
yes: Relatively rarely, a lower cervical radiculopathy can present with chest pain. Obviously, one would want to do a thorough workup of the much more common and worrisome cardiopulmonary causes of chest pain first. I do have a few patients that have had multiple cardiac workups that were negative and only got relief after neck surgery. ...Read more
The brain and spinal cord communicates with what is occurring in the internal organs and limbs by nerve fibers where are like electrical wires with insulation (myelin) and the "copper" (axon). Within brain and spinal cord these nerves connect to other nerves via synapses on both axons and dendrites. A nerve can carry information regarding sensations, and ...Read more

Shooting pain in left arm for 2 days. No chest pain. What could this be, other than a pinched nerve? Could it be sign of heart disease?
I'm having sharp chest pain with shooting pain down my arm with weakness n tingling in my pinky n ring finger, could this be a pinched nerve? I'm 29.
Could be: It also could be other things and while you don't say L or R and you're female and fairly young, it could even be related to your heart. So, call your Dr - describe this carefully and see what they advise. If there was some incident that would cause a pinched nerve, mention it in your detailed description of the problems. If other or worse symptoms develop, go to an ER. Best! ...Read more
Too many areas: Nerves supply specific areas. There's no nerve that supplies both your hands, chest and lungs. I think the pinched nerve hypothesis doesn't explain your symptoms. Instead, perhaps you should be fully evaluated. A chest x-ray, ekg, blood work and other tests as needed would provide a lot of information. ...Read more
What causes chest pain, sharp, stinging nerve-like pain in upper left chest extending to abdomen? Brief but strong, occurring over last 3 days?
Causes and mechanism: Many potential causes of such symptoms but the same mechanism -- when the chest pain is sharp and fleeting, stinging or electrifying, can be at varying intensities -- it is caused by irritation of the nervous network in the chest wall. The nervous system is rather like the body's own electrical system -- so the sensation is indeed electrifying. The most common cause is a simple chest wall strain. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Many possible, r/oMI: Various issues can yield left chest pain radiating into the upper back. First you need an EKG to rule out a myocardial infarction, as it can present in the manner you're describing, but is usually, but not always, accompanied by chest heaviness, shortness of breath, sweats, and left arm or neck pain. A chest xray will show wether is it pneumonia or maybe just a sprained pec muscle ...Read more
What can cause new musculoskeletal, non-cardiac chest pain and l. Arm and underarm nerve tingling in healthy subjects? Recommended tests?
Nerve pain: Irritation of the brachial plexus (the nerves that come together and then branch to go to the arm) can cause these symptoms. Overuse, carrying a backpack, trauma are common causes. Less common are inflammation of the nerves or compression of the nerves. I'd recommend starting with a nerve conduction study (EMG) and then further testing would be based on those results. ...Read more
Chest pain, arm numbness, doctor did a physical and took BP and pulse. He said it's most likely a nerve pinch because my heart sounds well...
? other tests ?: At 18 you are at low risk for a heart problem but I have seen pericarditis in younger kids with similar symptoms. An ekg and/or cardiac enzymes would rule out most issues that combine arm numbness with chest pain. Without the arm numbness i would consider heartburn/reflux more likely. However having a more extensive history with timing/duration/activities & exam would allow a more thorough answer. ...Read more
Can nerve damage cause this on & off upper left back and left chest pain (twitching, burning)or what can it be?!? Had ECG stress test normal 1 year ago
Nerves twich & burn: It would be highly unusual to find these symptoms attributed to the heart in a 21 year-old. Damage or pathology involving nerves (peripheral or central) is the most likely explanation for these symptoms. Non-organic causes are also possible if symptoms are unchanged over the past year. ...Read more

Accident 1 mo ago, pinched ulnar nerve. Chest pain when i lay on left or belly. Related? Had blood/ekg all normal. Also GERD symps. Neck shoulder pain
Ulnar nerve Sx: It is most likely that ur gerd is giving you the chest pain rather than your ulnar nerve. Patients w/ulnar nerve compression can have pain, numbness, tingling, cold hands/arms, neck ; shoulder pain; just about any symptom from the fingertips to the neck, but not chest pain. A good way to find out is to have a physician block (numb up) your ulnar nerve and see what sx go away. ...Read more

19 High BP R arm: High blood pressure in right arm in young male suggests co-arctation or the aorta pre ductal. This congenital heart vessel defect encroaches (narrows) the aorta before the take off of the Left subclavian artery so that the BP is low in the Left arm. But because the BP is also low to the kidney it secretes a hormone called renin which raises BP trying to get more pressure to the kidney. Consult me. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
