Is it possible to have amblyopia without a wandering eye?

Yes: The process of lining up the fixation point is part of visual development and brings the eyes into alignment. However if one eye presents a clearer image to the brain than the other, the brain may later decide to turn off the out of focus eye and thus create amblyopia. Misaligned eyes present a constant double image to the brain so one is turned off to have a clear image. The brain decides. ...Read more

Rapid onset adult amblyopia.Vision worsening, mostly due wandering eye that seems impossible to keep in tandem.Did patch method 4mo. No change.Causes?

Puzzling assumption: Vision worsening because of wandering eye is expected, but often the wondering is triggered by other eye or eye muscle issues. If alignment cannot be maintained the brain will deny input from one eye=amblyopia. Get the best evaluation by an ophthalmologist you can and hope for the best. ...Read more

Why when I look at lights, I see it ghosting straight above it? My eye docs aid my eyes were fine. Anxiety? Dry eyes?

Why when I look at lights, I see it ghosting straight above it? My eye docs aid my eyes were fine. Anxiety? Dry eyes?

Neither- normal eyes: The electrophysiological response to seeing is much like how a camera works, and seeing the negatives on a camera look like the opposite of what we just saw in terms of density of color imaging, and what appears to be ghosting. You are just more aware of it than most. Also, like after flash bulbs go off, and then you see the image of the flash for awhile, then it disappears.UR eye doctors r right! ...Read more

Do people with one wandering eye see where that eye is pointing? I can never tell.

Do people with one wandering eye see where that eye is pointing? I can never tell.

Usually not: Most eyes that move out of position develop what is termed supression in which the central vision is ignored by the brain which prevents the seeing of two images at a time. Along with this is a lack of awareness of the wandering eye's position. Most people with this problem are aware of it when they look in the mirror or someone tells them about it. ...Read more

My eye ball hurts got hit by a pole yesterday straight into my eye I can see it just hurts when I blink does this mean the top of my eye lid isbruised?

Bruised: It appears to be a mild bruise. If it does not hurt too much and your vision is normal, then it should settle down in the next 2-3 days. If either pain increases or vision decreases or in case of increasing swelling, you should go see your doctor(Family doctor may be adequate unless vision has decreased). An eye specialist is called Ophthalmologist. ...Read more

For many months straight lines look wavy with my left eye.Have myopia and astigmatism. Causes? Which should I see a optometrist or ophthalmologist?

Exam needed: I would suggest you see an ophthalmologist for dilated eye exam to confirm the retina (back portion of the eye) is normal. Symptoms you discuss suggest to rule out retina changes. If retina is normal, then you may need an update on glasses possibly your astigmatism has change. ...Read more

What could cause sudden onset amblyopia in a child? 7 years old, just last year had perfect vision now -3.75 in one eye. Normal? See neurologist?

Ped. ophthalmologist: If you are certain that this eye saw 20/20 without correction a year ago then this might be cause for alarm. More likely is the possibility that vision measured in a pediatrician's office might have missed the child squinting or somehow using the other eye during the exam. Many things are possible including cataract, diabetes, progressive myopia, etc. See a pediatric ophthalmologist to begin with. ...Read more
