Can People Die From Anemia
Yes, depending on ..: Severity and intervention. Hematocrits can fall to where o2 delivery is insufficient to support organ function, particularly the heart, which must work even harder due to severe anemia. Death can occur. If anemia develops slowly, patients can compensate to even very low hematocrits, but then precipitously decompensate. In contrast, rapid development may preclude compensation w/ grave consequences. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Fast or slow: It all depends (as with everything!) Ultimately one would die from lack of oxygen transport to the tissues of the body. If this comes in the form of a heart attack, it could be fast with a relatively-high hemoglobin (perhaps even 8 if you had severe heart disease). On the other hand, if anemia declines slowly over long time in young person, I have seen Hb of 3. ...Read more

What to do if I have iron defiency anemia. Is there a chance i could die in the future if not treated?
If your anemia deficiency anemia what does that mean? What is going wrong and how can you improve? Can anemia deficiency cause death?
I : I think you might be referring to iron deficiency anemia. It is common. Because the body doesn’t have enough iron, it can’t make enough hemoglobin. The hemoglobin carries oxygen in the blood cells. Talk to your doctor about eating foods that are rich in iron and about iron supplementation. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

However, there are many variables impacting prognosis and survival from one patient to the next. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
What are long term effects of severe anemia? from bloodletting, looking4 reasons 2stop. My hgb was 39 b4 transfus (5/26/15) told will die if dont stop
Dying isn't enough?: If you need more reasons than death, you should go see your Family Doc for referral to Psychiatrist. As an aside, I suspect it was your hematocrit that was 39 & your hemoglobin was actually 13 which is really quite normal, so I'm not sure why you're considered anemic or received transfusion. Most likely, those are values after. But since you're asking for more reasons to stop, see Psychiatrist. ...Read more
Yes: If iron deficiency is not treated, ultimately this can lead to high output cardiac (heart) failure. When someone is anemic, then their blood volume is low. This leads to increased cardiac output and ultimately the heart can't keep up with the demand. When this occurs, lack of blood flow leads to organ failure. Learning point is to treat it. Hope this helps. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
