Can Pelvic Ultrasound Always Detect Ovarian Cyst
An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more
Not very serious.: Hey blood-filled for hemorrhagic cyst is not uncommon. If it is not painful then it can be observed to see if it will resolve without treatment. If a hemorrhagic cyst causes pain or does not resolve and it may need to be removed surgically. Hope this helps.
Pelvic ultrasound revealed 3.8 cm functional, septated ovarian cyst. Dr. said no follow up is needed. Should I be concerned?
Rupture is serious: Dermoids can have hair and teeth in them, so are complex on U/S, . The black stuff in the picture is hair. They often grow slowly but rarely rupture. If so, it's like appendicitis and needs immediate surgery. U/S is a good screen for ovarian masses, but with a "surgical pelvis" CT is done. An early sign of impending rupture on U/S might be fluid in the pelvis, but this is not diagnostic.
Can a doctor tell from a pelvic ultrasound if an ovarian cyst is cancerous or benign? Or do they all look alike and need further tests?
It depends: Certain features make it highly likely that a cystic lesion is benign (e.g. a small "simple cyst"), and others make it more likely to be malignant. There is significant overlap between benign and malignant features, so at times it is impossible to tell. Other times the appearance is so characteristic that benignity/malignancy can be predicted fairly reliably. Age and other findings also factor inSee 1 more doctor answer
How long does it take for ovarian cyst rupture to cure? Had pelvic ultrasound everything okay I have anxiety I keep thinking chronic appendix
Trust pelvic US: Every woman differs, but usually 6-8 weeks. You might want to temporarily ease off sexual activity until you are pain free. If pain worsens or fever, seek medical attention. Doubt it has connection to appendix even though pain is in same general area. Good luck, heal soon.
How soon can a pelvic ultrasound tell if your preganant? Can a corpus lutem be a early sign of pregenacy? Can a ovarian cyst be a very early sign?
4 weeks: Earlier ultrasound can show signs such as thickened endometrium but pregnancy cannot be confirmed until a gestational sac is seen. A yolk sac & embryo are more diagnostic but may not be seen until later. An HCG level of 1, 000 should correlate with a gest sac. A cl or ovarian cyst occur with ovulation so are not early signs of pregnancy. Take care.
Hello, please explain what the finds of my recent transvaginal and pelvic ultrasound found. Right ovary 4.4 x2.9x1.1 CM simple cyst and on the left 5.5 x4.8x2.9 ovarian cyst prior ultrasound measurements were 6.9x5.8x6.5 which was smaller in size but also
Depends: It is difficult to answer your question with certainty without knowing your clinical history, laboratory findings, and detail information of the ovarian cysts. Simple cyst may be monitored over time with us but more complex cysts may require specific management. When a cyst improves in size, it's usually is a good sign but accurate measurements are not always reproducible on us.See 1 more doctor answer

Had pelvic pain last month ultrasound showed 2 left ovarian cysts had right sided abd pain 2 days ago showed 2 right ovarian cysts. Any suggestions?
This may be normal.: It is natural to form ovarian cysts every month. The cysts are where the eggs are being released from the ovary. If you become pregnant, this cyst supports early pregnancy. Sometimes, these cysts can get large and burst, causing pain. This can be prevented with some form of birth control. Work with your doctor to determine the right choice of management/prevention for you.See 1 more doctor answer
Maybe: Small ovarian cysts may not be detected but usually are not clinically significant. Usually can detect ovarian cysts of 3-4 mm in diameter with good diagnostic ultrasound.
Hello there! What to do after a total hysterectomy with ovaries left In place. Now having pelvic pain and had ultrasound which showed ovarian cysts?
Abd/pelvic pain once a month lasting 4 days for about a year. Had CT and ultrasound each time showed ovarian cysts. Can't take birth control, suggestions?
I suggest: See a live doctor for an exam and an evaluation, not possible to give a worthwhile diagnosis online. Chances are excellent you can be helped.
Depends: Ultrasound is very sensitive to proper preparation for the test...A full bladder and no gas is important to see the ovaries adequately. If the ovaries are well seen then cysts on/in the ovaries are well seen...Need to know how well the technician felt they saw things during the test.
