No: The copper iud does not emit hormones and so will not have an effect on your sex drive. It functions as a foreign body to block implantation of the fertilized egg. So, it should not have an effect on your sex drive.

Are we okay to not use condoms if I'm on the paragard copper iud?

Are we okay to not use condoms if I'm on the paragard copper iud?

Better than condoms: The CopperIUD is one of the BEST forms of birth control available. Non-hormonal (no effect on fertility/acne/headaches/nausea/wt gain/bloating/blood clots) and VERY safe (except if you have Wilson's dz/Copper allergy). Only risk is a heavier period and complications w/ insertion (RARE). Immediately effective to prevent pregnancy, but DOES NOT protect against STIs. OK for women who haven't had kids

Is my paragard IUD causing me to get dizzy, feel confused, I feel off balanced? I think it has something to do with the copper? Anything I can take? :

Is my paragard IUD causing me to get dizzy, feel confused, I feel off balanced? I think it has something to do with the copper? Anything I can take? :

Unlikely: These aren't common symptoms or side effects for the paraguard iud. Sometimes women have increased bleeding or irregular bleeding with paraguard, but not confusion and imbalance. If you were having a lot of bleeding, you could be anemic and these would be symptoms of anemia. Consider seeing your family physician or gp to discuss these other symptoms you are having. Best wishes.

Can Paragard, the copper IUD, cause copper toxicity within the body? Hair loss, fatigue, etc.?

Can Paragard, the copper IUD, cause copper toxicity within the body? Hair loss, fatigue, etc.?

Paragard: Here is an excellent article by Mayo Clinic regarding possible problems: http://www. Mayoclinic. Org/tests-procedures/paragard/basics/risks/prc-20013048. Here is the company site: http://paragard. Com/safety-and-side-effects. Aspx. With symptoms of hair loss or fatigue - I would not assume that is related to the IUD. Your physician can assess to determine the cause of these sx's.

Can the copper IUD (paraguard) protect against sexually transmitted infections?

IUD: No. The main protection against std is condom and monogamy. As a matter of fact if exposed to a STI the iud may promote or complicate the infection and may need to be removed.

I had sex a gentleman on a Thursday. Then on Friday I had my copper IUD removed and had sex. Could I get pregnant from thursday?

I had sex a gentleman on a Thursday. Then on Friday I had my copper IUD removed and had sex. Could I get pregnant from thursday?

Possibly: The deposits of Thursday can remain active for a couple of days in your tubes, and fertilize an egg coming through. Since the coil was removed Friday, it would not be around to receive and interfere with implantation if it was to occur. However, the trauma of coil removal might have made the area unsuitable for implantation. It's always good to overlap methods of BC if you are in the process of change

Is it true that after putting a copper IUD you have to wait one month before having unprotected sex? My obgyn told me its not true

No waiting period: After a copper IUD is inserted for effective contraception. It is not unusual to have some cramping and scant bleeding after insertion for a few days, but afterwards should be ok. Sexually transmitted infections are still possible, so use condrom protection as well unless you are in a long term committed relationship.

Have paragard iud. Its in place and I had sex. Now I have no period this month. I'm about a day late.

Have paragard iud. Its in place and I had sex. Now I have no period this month. I'm about a day late.

Low chance: With the Paragard there is a very low chance of pregnancy with perfect use (making sure your strings are in place monthly, etc). With just one day late I would not jump to the pregnancy conclusion just yet, it might just be a slightly irregular cycle which can happen, it's just not that common. If it becomes more than a week late, have your doc check your strings and make sure everything is ok.

Last two days I've had cramping after sex. I have paragard iud, is this normal? No discharge, smells and strings still in place. Normal?

Last two days I've had cramping after sex. I have paragard iud, is this normal? No discharge, smells and strings still in place. Normal?

Can be normal: The first six months after getting an iud, there are more cramps then you are probably used to. However those symptoms should improve over time. You can also have cramps midcycle when you're ovulating. If you have had the iud for a while, and this is the first time you're having this symptom, it may be a sign of something else. If this symptom persists w/ your next cycle, I would see your doctor.

If she had sex a week ago and she has iud (copper iud) and she was ovulating. What are the chances of get pregnant? I know the iud is 99% effective

Very low: As you mentioned, the copper IUD is an effective product with about 1% risk of pregnancy in any year of use. Compared to all other forms of birth control the only one better is abstinence. Use of any secondary form like condoms can reduce the risk of STD's but adds little to the BC effect.
