What is a dissociative seizure? Is this related to anxiety so high it causes a seizure?? Is memory loss assiciated with this?

Dx of exclusion: Hi David, dissociative seizures are non-epileptic and can be caused by a number of factors (extreme anxiety being one possibility); they require careful evaluation to determine etiology and treatment. Amnesia is possible, but if the seizures are truly psychogenic, the loss is not due to nervous system damage, and should respond to appropriate treatment. Hope this is helpful. Take good care. ...Read more

Marijuana actually reduces risk of seizures. Many people who suffer from seizures poorly controlled by drugs finds marijuana often helps them far better than meds.

I have severe anxiety that causes me to have seizures, are there any natural yet effective ways to calm myself? I lose sleep & appetite, & even cry?

I have severe anxiety that causes me to have seizures, are there any natural yet effective ways to calm myself? I lose sleep & appetite, & even cry?

Anxiety + Seizures: Symptoms of a seizure that are caused by anxiety are not the same as seizures caused by irregular electrical firing of the brain. The former may respond to counseling, hypnosis, reassurance, and treatment of anxiety. The latter tend to improve with medicines called anticonvulsants, such as phenytoin and levetiracetam. Whatever helps your anxiety will probably help your seizure symptoms. ...Read more

Things to consider:: Has the appropriate testing done to confirm the type of seizures you are having.
Stress can indirectly affects seizure activity or onset by making you forget to take your medicine, increase your cortisol level which can affect the activity of seizures, cause you to have negative emotions which alters the limbic system in your brain. I have anxiety really bad right now and I am in great health. But I'm so scared I'm going to have a seizure after reading about them. Can this happen?

I'm not epileptic. But I feel like I want to have a seizure but ones not happening. And instead it causing anxiety. Why won't I have one?

Bizarre question: This is a truly bizarre question. I can't imagine what you could possibly mean by saying you "want" to have a seizure. Perhaps you don't understand what a seizure is. I'm guessing you have severe anxiety and have somehow gotten the mistaken (very mistaken) notion that a seizure would relieve it. See a psychologist or psychiatrist to get proper treatment (including psychotherapy) for your anxiety. ...Read more

My wife is 3½ months pregnant. She often suufer a mild anxiety and mild seizure. Will it be a problem if she took Becosules (vit. B) capsules?

Probably not, but: Why don't you ask her OBGYN for recommendations. They absolutely NEED to know about her Hx of seizures to be prepared for delivery - just in case. It could prevent them having a moment of panic - and that's good to do. Also, Pre-natal vitamin combinations should be available and that may have enough of the one she needs. It's good to develop a relationship w/ OBGYNs - so talk to them. Congrats! ...Read more

My wife has undiagnosed seizures when she has high anxiety. When she takes welbutrin, they seem less aggressive and less frequent. Why is that?

Wellbutrin (bupropion): Stress can trigger seizures and should be treated. Paradoxically Wellbutrin can cause seizures by lowering her seizure threshold. She would do better to try a different approach to the anxiety reaction with perhaps Lexapro or Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride). These are SSRIs which can also lower seizure threshold but not to the degree Wellbutrin can ...Read more

Can sudden and 4 hours of strange feeling and hot and red face and sleepless of anxiety be a type of seizure?

Do not think so: You can never say never, but this was probably not a seizure. Seizures normally last 30-90 seconds. They normally impair awareness, and people who have them do not remember how they felt. A hot and red face often occurs with dilation of small blood vessels in the skin, but not normally a seizure. Most seizures are best described by a witness. ...Read more

I am scaring myself to death I had 2 seizures in my sleep 14 years ago when I was teen now im having anxiety that when I feel odd its an aura?

Previously answered: Dr. Bey answered this one for you previously, and I agree that a neurological evaluation is warranted to rule out current seizures and/or auras. What you describe sounds much more like anxiety than aura, though. The question is why you're continuing to scare yourself to death? In other questions it's appeared that you have obsessional anxiety & could benefit from psychotherapy for this. Good luck. ...Read more
