What is the cause of ruptured ovarian cyst blood clots during period?

Normal: Each month, during an ovulatory cycle, one or more ovarian cysts are formed. One usually predominates and ruptures mid-cycle, liberating the egg. When the lining of the uterus is shed, bleeding occurs and clots form. If the uterus holds onto the clots, they will break down and the blood darken, resulting in a dark menstrual flow. If the uterus is irritable, the clots can be expelled as they form. ...Read more

Typical w Plan b: Emergency contraception is used after unprotected intercourse to decrease the risk of pregnancy by about 70%. It is a high dose of birth control to disrupt the hormonal patterns to delay or prevent ovulation. Abnormal bleeding or an abnormal cycle after use is common. Check preg test in 10 days. ...Read more

Possibly: I assume you were told about the cyst after having an ultrasound or ct scan. The most common cause of a missed period in a female of childbearing age is pregnancy. You should probably take a pregnancy test first. If that is negative you can move on to a thorough work-up with the gynecologist who ordered the imaging study. Be well. ...Read more

Check back: It is not uncommon for a normal functional cyst to rupture and go away on its own but a fever is not normal. Call back or go back and talk to the gynecologist about the fever. ...Read more

Period was 6 months late..Found I have 2mm ovarian cyst and have been bleeding for past month+ with big sized blood clots any idea why? Thank you inad

The most likely: Reason is irregular ovulation. Without cyclic changes in hormones estrogen is steadily produces causing growth of, then falling away of, the uterine lining. A 2mm cyst is barely detectable, sure not 6 cm? In any event, look up pcos. Do not despair if this is the problem; short term consider pill to prevent anemia. There are many good tx for pcos (see metformin) if that is the case. Gd luc. ...Read more

Why am i passing blood clots with no period, i have had two surgery's for ovarian cysts, could they be linked together?

Yes, they could be: Some women are prone to getting ovarian cysts that may or may not produce the wrong hormones at the wrong time, which may result in the uterine lining getting mixed signals. This passing of clots is not normal and you should contact your gynecologist. ...Read more

Yes, : Yes, that could very well be an ovarian cyst. Cysts often cause pressure, then a sudden pain. Taking advil can often help. They usually resolve on their own. If there is any chance of pregnancy, then the patient should take a pregnancy test to rule out other causes. Be sure and tell your doctor about your symptoms or see them earlier if your symptoms worsen. Cysts are also more common during peri-menopause. ...Read more
