Can a woman with GERD get pregnant and will it get worse or it can be controlled?

Can a woman with GERD get pregnant and will it get worse or it can be controlled?

Yes, probably, yes.: Gerd (gastro-esophageal reflux disease) will not keep you from getting pregnant (so don't use it for birth control!). It will likely get worse in pregnancy as the belly grows and puts greater pressure on the stomach and esophagus. It can be controlled through eating small frequent meals, avoiding foods that provoke heartburn, and through meds - but check with your doctor. Lgromkomd. ...Read more

Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

Gerd in pregnancy and shortness of breath?

Gerd in pregnancy and shortness of breath?

Common: Common during pregnancy. You need more oxygen during pregnancy and the body adapts to this. Also as the growing baby/uterus pushes against your diaphragm (muscle of breathing) your breathing might feel more labored. Gerd occurs for the same reason. It also occurs because the hormones make the muscle from the stomach to the esophagus more relaxed, causing reflux. Both reverse after delivery. ...Read more

Can GERD be associated with pregnancy?

Can GERD be associated with pregnancy?

Yes: The answer should really be "absolutely". There is a muscular valve at the top of the stomach that helps keep stomach contents (fluid/food) in the stomach and out of the esophagus. This muscle relaxes more often during pregnancy and doesn't close as tightly. When the stomach contracts/churns food, it is able to go into the esophagus, and women get reflux symptoms. ...Read more

I think I have gerd, how do I know for sure and will this cause complications in pregnancy?

GER vs GERD: Gastroesophageal reflux is a universal event. You cannot belch without refluxing air from the stomach, its just when the stomach acid comes up with it that you can become symptomatic with heartburn. (gerd) avoiding caffeine, nicotine, acidic drinks, spicy foods, and laying down after a meal can help you avoid symptoms. Many women deal with this in pregnancy and do fine. ...Read more

Does having GERD as a child cause women to have pregnancy complications?

Does having GERD as a child cause women to have pregnancy complications?

Doubtful: It may be difficult, but it would be helpful for an OB provider to have records of prior diagnosis and treatment even if in childhood. It is unlikely that gerd that occurred only in childhood would cause pregnancy complications. However, reflux might occur due simply to relaxation of muscles by hormones. That might require some changes in diet if OB approves to ensure proper nourishment. ...Read more

Can I still have GERD after delivery if I had it before pregnancy? What are the symptoms?

Can I still have GERD after delivery if I had it before pregnancy? What are the symptoms?

Yes: Gerd is a result of a weak valve between the stomach and the esophagus. Pregnancy make the reflux worse becasue of the increased intra-abdominal pressure. I'm 33 weeks pregnant and feeling breathless and dizzy. Feel relieved if I burped. My ob said its gerd. Need to know if these are normal.

Possibly: It's very easy to feel winded at 33 weeks of pregnancy. A doctor would want to make sure that you don't have any conditions like asthma that could be exacerbating. It's also normal to burp a lot more towards the end of pregnancy. Reflux is often described as a burning or pain like sensation just below the breastbone. Zantac (ranitidine) or Pepcid can help. ...Read more

I'm 38 weeks pregnant, and feeling tight stomach mostly at night and my GERD gets worst at night that made me feel breathless, what to do?

Hang in there: You are about due. These problems are common at your status, as the uterus puts pressure on the stomach, and even the urinary bladder. To decrease gas and acid you may need antacid, avoid certain foods that induce them such as spice and legumes, and better to eat frequent small meals so as not to fill up the stomach and positioning may help avoid gerd. Talk to your md about these simple things. ...Read more

I'm 34 weeks pregnant. I have gerd. I experienced weakness, dizziness, breathless, cannot concentrate when hungry or after eating, what is this?

Vitamin deficiencies: People with gerd, especially those taking antacids or Prilosec are prone to vitamin B12 and other deficiencies, which can cause the symptoms you describe. Blood test for vitamin B12 is not very reliable; if your level is less than 400 (rather than 200, which is what the labs say) you are probably deficient. Taking Prilosec also lowers magnesium level and can contribute to migraines

3rd trimester GERD: Gerd in the 3rd trimester can be very uncomfortable. Calcium chews: Particularly calcium carbonate (not citrate) can neutralize acid. Most reflux during pregnancy is do to increased abdominal pressure and goes away after pregnancy. There are other medication for gerd that are better than calcium but there is no harmful effects as long as you are not taking too much of it. Can gas in chest mimic skipping heartbeat? Will burped afterwards. I have GERD and 36weeks pregnant. Had EKG result is normal. Is this just part of GERD

Could be: Pregnancy is certainly well known to cause or make gerd worse. Amongst the symtoms of gerd is reflux if gas, or belching. Whether or not this mimicks a skipped heartbeat is less certain, because that sensation is highly subjective. Hope this helps, and good luck with the remainder of the pregnancy. ...Read more
