Can Mitral Valve Prolapse Cause Chest Pain
When the mitral valve that separates the heart's left atrium and left ventricle does not close appropriately. When the heart contracts to push blood from the left ventricle to the rest of the body, portions of the mitral valve move backwards into the left atrium. This can cause regurgitation of blood from the left ventricle into the left atrium. Most of the time a mitral valve prolapse is asymptomatic and does ...Read more

Follow: Mvp can lead to mitral regurgitation and this causes a murmur. Symptoms are variable, depending on the severity. Mvp most commonly is asymptomatic but sometimes causes palpitations, shortness of breath, even chest pain. If you are having any symptoms, you should have an echocardiogram to evaluate the valve and severity. ...Read more

Doubt it's the heart: I don't think your symptoms can be caused by your heart given your description of the echo findings. There could be many other causes of your symptoms. One potential would be panic attacks. Often these give you the feeling you are dying. Check with your doctor for follow up. ...Read more

My doctor says I may have mitral valve prolapse. However there's a ten month wait for an ethnocardiogram, my symptoms are persisting and sometimes worsening, chest pain, rapid heart beat, shortness of breath post excercise, fatigue, what should I do?
Nothing: If you haven't had the echo, then the diagnosis of mvp has not been established. Even if you do have it, mvp does not cause these symptoms. Doctors blame all kinds of things on mvp but they are not related. There is no treatment required for mvp and none that is helpful. If the wait for an echo is that long then you are in the wrong health system. ...Read more
