Need antibiotic: Azo is no substitute for an antibiotic, it is an analgesic for the bladder and helps the symptoms only. You have to get on an antibiotic or the infection can spread to your kidney or blood stream. Azo should be used the first 3 days of antibiotic therapy. Not reliable: If you have had a positive urine culture for a bacteria known to be senstivie to amoxicillin, it will work very well. However, many bacteria that cause UTI are resistant to it, and amoxicillin should not be used for UTI's if testing hasn't been done. Definitely do not treat yourself with leftover amoxicillin.
