Can Megace And Mono Linyah Cause Homonal Inbalance When Taken Together
I got mono a little over 4 years ago now and have had severe acne ever since. Is there a possible correlation? Does mono mess up hormonal balance?
It's moot: There's no understanding why some people get acne and others don't, beyond that it's sometimes a marker for hormonal disturbances in women. If you've got severe acne, it's your right to have it treated effectively. I'm going to assume that you are using topical benzoyl peroxide as tolerated and that you are not clear. Make an appointment with your personal physician now. Best wishes. ...Read more
Unlikely: Haven't seen an actual research study in which semen samples from EBV-carrying guys were tested for infectious EBV viruses. Generally, people catch EBV (the mono virus) via saliva. Since kissing generally precedes swallowing semen, in a typical relationship, the virus is likely already transmitted via saliva, long before any semen is swallowed. Thus, no worries about catching mono via semen. ...Read more
Lowish neuts, maybe?: Percentages don't give much useful information, and absolute white cells counts are of importance if and only if they're considerably away from the reference range, which is set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside. Many folks simply run low-neutrophils for a lifetime without a problem. How do you FEEL? ...Read more

I had two positive mono spot tests years apart, with symptoms. Can't have mono twice, right? What could have caused the second positive test?
Can have more often: Infectious mononucleosis does not give permanent immunity therefore you can have more than once also the mono sot test is only a guide to the disease to be absolutely sure it is to have the titers for epstein barr tested to be sure it is mono in your case if you had the positive signs and symptoms you have had it twice it surprises my patients also since it is self limiting it is not dangerous. ...Read more
Tonsils used to be fine. They've now grown to be severely enlarged (grade 4) meeting at midline. Negative for mono. What else could cause this?
Otolayngologist: Since both tonsils are hypertrophied and if you have no evident enlarged lymph glands or abnormality of your cbc, I would suspect some systemic cause other than malignancy. Mononucleosis needs to be ruled out by repeating the monotest. An otolaryngologist is best qualified to evaluate and advise you especially if the enlarged tonsils present a mechanical problem such as obstruction. ...Read more

"immune system" ??: People with compromised immune systems can develop several complications of the virus. The virus itself leads to generalized weakness / fatigue which can be prolonged and may be mislabeled as a weakened "immune system" but generally does't further impair response to other infections. Poor nutrition, stress, lack of sleep and even loneliness are factors that can adversely effect our immune syst ...Read more

My boyfriend had mono from his ex gf a year ago and we've been together for 5 months and im scared to kiss him? Woulld I catch it?
Relax: Mono can shed from oral secretions for years after a primary infection, but after 5 months you have had plenty of exposure. If you were going to get it from him you probably would have by now. Many kids get it in early childhood and it goes by like a simple viral illness. You may already be immune. ...Read more
Yes: Chest pain is not usually a symptom of mono. It might more likely be related to vomiting or a side effect of medication in which case it is hot really "heart pain" although it might be in the chest. There was one report of a patient who had chest pain related to infarction of teh spleen in mono. Mono does affect the spleen which can even rupture as a result of mono. ...Read more

Altered immunity: During mononucleosis (ebv virus) infection, the virus infects b cells of the immune system and epithelial cells. Yes, absolutely.: Vasculitis wis well-known to be associated with Epstein Barr Virus. That said there are other causes of rash with EBV. Follow up with your doctor and get treated if you haven't already ...Read more
Possibly: For the mono patients I see as an ENT doctor i usually prescribe steroids and an antibiotic. The patients usually have huge infected tonsils and I treat with antibiotics to prevent bacterial superinfection of the virally damaged tissue. In my years of experience this has been successful in not only helping the throat symptoms but preventing later secondary recurrent tonsillitis. ...Read more
