I got mono a little over 4 years ago now and have had severe acne ever since. Is there a possible correlation? Does mono mess up hormonal balance?

I got mono a little over 4 years ago now and have had severe acne ever since. Is there a possible correlation? Does mono mess up hormonal balance?

It's moot: There's no understanding why some people get acne and others don't, beyond that it's sometimes a marker for hormonal disturbances in women. If you've got severe acne, it's your right to have it treated effectively. I'm going to assume that you are using topical benzoyl peroxide as tolerated and that you are not clear. Make an appointment with your personal physician now. Best wishes. ...Read more

Can swallowing semen cause mono?

Can swallowing semen cause mono?

Unlikely: Haven't seen an actual research study in which semen samples from EBV-carrying guys were tested for infectious EBV viruses. Generally, people catch EBV (the mono virus) via saliva. Since kissing generally precedes swallowing semen, in a typical relationship, the virus is likely already transmitted via saliva, long before any semen is swallowed. Thus, no worries about catching mono via semen. ...Read more

What could cause my mono and lymph % to be elevated on cbc?

Lowish neuts, maybe?: Percentages don't give much useful information, and absolute white cells counts are of importance if and only if they're considerably away from the reference range, which is set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside. I had two positive mono spot tests years apart, with symptoms. Can't have mono twice, right? What could have caused the second positive test?

Can have more often: Infectious mononucleosis does not give permanent immunity therefore you can have more than once also the mono sot test is only a guide to the disease to be absolutely sure it is to have the titers for epstein barr tested to be sure it is mono in your case if you had the positive signs and symptoms you have had it twice it surprises my patients also since it is self limiting it is not dangerous. ...Read more

Tonsils used to be fine. They've now grown to be severely enlarged (grade 4) meeting at midline. Negative for mono. What else could cause this?

Tonsils used to be fine. They've now grown to be severely enlarged (grade 4) meeting at midline. Negative for mono. What else could cause this?

Otolayngologist: Since both tonsils are hypertrophied and if you have no evident enlarged lymph glands or abnormality of your cbc, I would suspect some systemic cause other than malignancy. Mononucleosis needs to be ruled out by repeating the monotest. An otolaryngologist is best qualified to evaluate and advise you especially if the enlarged tonsils present a mechanical problem such as obstruction. ...Read more
