Mono 2 years ago. Since then the lymph nodes under my jaw are always swollen. And I am pretty sure I have chronic tonsillitis. Are they connected?

Can be both: Mono can sometimes leave the neck nodes swollen for a long time. If indeed it is tonsillitis you will need antibiotics or your tonsils removed. You need to see an ENT specialist to be sure. ...Read more

Dr said I have mono. Lymph nodes swollen on underside od jaw and just noticed one on the left side above collar bone. Is this normal?

Typical for mono: This sounds normal for infectious mononucleosis. Enlarged lymph nodes can occur all over the body, and above the collarbone (the supraclavicular fossa, in medical terminology) is a common site. That said, mono is pretty uncommon above age 25. Discuss with your doctor if any doubt about the diagnosis. ...Read more

Are they changing?: You pose an excellent question. I share your concern. The most important question to ask right now is: "have these two lymph nodes changed in any way? "
if the answer is that these nodes are stable, non-tender, not red, and are gently movable; then, these are probably lymph nodes that have little to worry about. However, since you raise this question, have your doctor feel these next office visit. ...Read more

Might need a biopsy: Chronic mononucleosis can be debilitating, so my thoughts are with you. However, enlarged lymph nodes can represent many different things, not just chronic mono. If your doctor believes that your blood work suggests something OTHER than chronic mono, then you might want to have a lymph node biopsied to be sure that there isn't something more serious lurking, such as lymphoma. ...Read more

Had mono one year ago. Still able to feel lymph nodes in neck, reduced in size but never went away. 1 near throat is kidney bean size. Normal?

Possibly: These residual lymph nodes are pretty common after mononucleosis. The kidney bean sized one seems a litter larger than normal. If a lymph node is larger than one centimeter then it may need to be biopsied. Please see your doctor and have a full body lymph node evaluation and possibly some blood tests. ...Read more

How sure is the dx?: Reactivated mononucleosis is unusual. Most cases of mono are caused by EBV but CMV also can cause. While exceptions exist, usually mononucleosis confers lifelong immunity. Serologies are often used to check, however remain positive after acquiring the infection even many years. The monospot (EBV) is usually only positive for 3-5months p. infx.
