Can Lyme Disease Can Elevate Liver Enzymes
My husband has elevated liver enzymes and an enlarged spleen. He was bitten by a tick about 4 yrs ago and was treated for Lyme disease with a zpack.?
Needs evaluation: Not all tick bites cause lyme, but if he got lyme a z-pak is not adequate treatment so he likely has chronic lyme. Ticks can also transmit babesia, bartonella, rickettsia & other serious infections. These might be causing his problems & his problems might be unrelated to the bite. He needs a thorough medical evaluation including a doc knowledgeable about lyme & co-infections. See www.Ilads.Org. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Even more patients infected with ehrlichiosis (80%) have elevated liver enzymes and it can even rarely cause liver failure- see http://cid.Oxfordjournals.Org/content/34/9/1206.Long. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Taking enzymes and will start an abx protocol for Lyme disease. Will the enzymes affect the abx by reducing its effects? How many hours between them?
Caution re: abx !: Antibiotics work great for those recently infected with lyme but, based on extensive experience, often do more harm than good in chronic lyme. Even if you do use them this should only be done after extensive preparation of detoxifying, correcting nutrient deficiencies, balancing hormones, stress reduction, treating parasites/co-infections etc.See http://bit.Ly/1e7glux enzymes should not interfere. ...Read more
Been sick 1yr. diangosis 1wk ago with Lyme. Neuro and joint symptoms. Pos ANA, low WBC, high liver enzymes. How long should I expect treatment to be? Thanks.
Up to 1 month: It may take up to a month of IV antibiotics, depending on the severity and specifics of your case. Evidence for benefit of additional weeks or months of IV antibiotics is mostly anecdotal , and must be weighed against the risk of line infection, adverse drug effects, and destroying the balance of your microbiome. ...Read more
