Rt lung nodule w enlarged lymphnodes in mediastatin. Possible causes? Tu

Benign or malignant: Multiple possibilities. It's critical to obtain a thorough evaluation. All patients found to have a lung nodule should be referred to a comprehensive multidisciplinary thoracic surgical oncology program. After review of characteristics of nodule, patient history, risk factors, and examination; an individualized plan can be devised to facilitate diagnosis and/or treatment. ...Read more

Lung (Definition)

Deoxygenated blood enters the lungs from the right side of the heart and travels to the lungs. When you inspire, oxygen flows into the lungs, transverses the capilliares and attaches to hemoglobin down a gradient. At the same time, co2 diffuses into the capilaries and is expelled with exhalation. Oxygen rich blood then flows to the left side of the heart and into the ...Read more

Truthful answer please, can an suv 2.7 be caused by an infection in a lung nodule?

Yes: I know I have answered a number of your questions about this nodule and I hope you are well! Don't forget we are not really treating you. My best advice is to find a non-virtual doctor with whom you have good rapport, and decide together with that doctor what to do in real life. ...Read more

What symptoms can a benign lung nodule cause, and whether it causes blockage and effect on breathing?

What symptoms can a benign lung nodule cause, and whether it causes blockage and effect on breathing?

Mostly none: In general, lung nodules benign and malignant are asymptomatic (without symptoms). That said, benign is more likely associated with infection. Thus symptoms such as infection and pneumonia may be present; fever, cough, etc.... Other symptomatic nodules may be from sarcoidosis. There is a large list of symptoms with sarcoid. ...Read more

You're still alive: If the nodule was found ten years ago, and you had no illness as a result, then this is not cancer. If it were cancer, you might have a pretty good case. I'm glad it's not. Asbestosis itself presents as diffuse thickening of the lung texture, or of the pleural surfaces. Most lung nodules in non-smokers (hope that's you) are old histoplasmosis, which is harmless. Thanks for your service. ...Read more

Do you believe that absestos can cause a lung nodule?

Yes: Is the short answer. Asbestos can cause several different changes to the chest and lung fields. Pulmonary nodules are just one example. Pleural disease including plaques and calcification as well as mesothelioma are side affects of asbestos. Lung cancer is also a problem. Don't ignore this nodule. Talk to your doctor. ...Read more

Is it better to be safe than sorry, when one has a lung nodule 1.4 2.7 suv and get it removed or wait and perhaps cause more problems. Surgery seems so?

It depends: It depends on the patients medical history, smoking history, whether or not the nodule has grown over time, and what exactly it looks like. The patient's peace of mind is a factor as well. If a patient feels strongly that he would like a lung nodule removed that should factor into the equation also. ...Read more

What can cause swollen lymph nodes in chest and a lung nodule?

What can cause swollen lymph nodes in chest and a lung nodule?

Lung tumor: Chest or mediastinal lymph nodes associated with a lesion in the lung most often represent metastasis from a lung primary. This can further be defined by mediastinoscopy and lymph node biopsy or if in the proper position, thoracoscopy removing the lung nodule. A PET/CAT before any procedure will tell whether the nodes are malignant as whether the lung lesion is malignant. ...Read more

Could 4mm lung nodule cause fatigue&muscle loss for 1year? Tested positive on early cdtlung blood test. Sodium slight low cortisol slight high. Advice?

See an oncologist: Now is the time to find out if that nodule is, indeed, cancer, and a specialist's recommendations are the way to go. If so, that could be causing your fatigue. The muscle loss may be due to de-conditioning (not using the muscles enough), due to your fatigue. If it IS cancer, you are catching it at a very small size and there is a much better chance for a cure! ...Read more

Lung nodule found, what is the next step?

Many pathways: Depends on age, size of nodule, history, and smoking history. Options include do nothing (rare), pet scan if there is risk for cancer, follow up cts at intervals determined by experienced md. Biopsies and surgery can come, but generally after above steps. Most nodules (>95%) are not cancer, and therefore invasive procedures should be reserved for when suspicion (guided by above factors) is high. ...Read more

What does a lung nodule indicate? How is it treated?

Usually nothing: Most people, if you go looking, have lung nodules and most are benign scar-like reactions in the lung, and therefore they don't need to be treated any more than a freckle or mole on your skin needs to be treated. Just like moles, some lung nodules (<4% in high risk people) can be cancer and should be followed to see if they change. ...Read more

Lung nodule grew 6mm, could I have cancer?

50%: A non calcified lung nodule has a 50%risk of being cancer. Diagnosis of cancer is made by pathologist on a microscopic slide of a significant biopsy size. Removal of the whole nodule provides the pathologist with adecuate specimen. Needle biopsy of a lung cancer will miss the diagnosis half the time. So if it is cancer by needle bx it is. Otherwise undiagnostic. ...Read more

Will a 6mm lung nodule show up on a pet scan?

Maybe: Lung nodules smaller than 10 mm (3/8 inch) can be falsely negative on pet because of limitations of the technology. That means the uptake on the scan is not high enough to be suspicious even though the nodule is actually worrisome. However, some small nodules have enough uptake despite their small size. The pet is not a bad idea for a 6 mm nodule, and if positive, means aggressive evaluation. ...Read more

Can a biopsy be taken of a calcified lung nodule?

Yes, but: Calcification of a lung nodule frequently indicates that it is benign in nature. It is the noncalcified nodules that are most concerning for lung cancer. And thus the noncalcified nodules that more frequently meet criteria that prompts biopsy of the nodule. Appropriate treatment of lung nodules is best done at facilities with experience ...Read more

Radiologists, pulmonary physicians and thoracic surgeons are best qualified to determine the risk that a particular nodule is cancer. ...Read more

What is the difference between lung nodule on pleural surface vs subpleural?

What is the difference between lung nodule on pleural surface vs subpleural?

Pleural/subpleural: A pleura is a serous membrane which folds back onto itself to form a two-layered membrane structure. The thin space between the two pleural layers is known as the pleural cavity and normally contains a small amount of pleural fluid. The outer pleura (parietal pleura) is attached to the chest wall. The inner pleura (visceral pleura) covers the lungs and adjoining structures. The subpleura is below it ...Read more
