Can Lung Cancer Be Cured
Cancer is a group of diseases that is characterized by uncontrolled cell growth leading to invasion of surrounding tissues that spread to other parts of the body. Cancer can begin anywhere in the body and is usually related to one or more genetic mutations that allow normal cells to become malignant by interfering with internal cellular control mechanisms, such as programmed cell death or by preventing ...Read more
Absolutely: Stage IA lung cancer that is resected with a lobectomy and lymph node sampling has better than an 80% cure rate. Stage IB, IIA and IIB are also frequently curable. Unfortunately 75% of lung cancers are Stage II (difficult to cure) or IV (incurable) at the time they are diagnosedSee 2 more doctor answers
If lung cancer is found early (still a small nodule,) can it be cured, or can it only be treated. Some sites say that lung cancer can not be cured.
It can be cured: New guidelines have urged yearly low level ct scans to be done in smokers and smokers that have quit within the last several years. This will hopefully pick up early cancers that can be surgically cured.See 1 more doctor answer
Multidisciplinary.: Several specialties are involved with treating a patient with lung cancer. A pulmonologist, oncologist, surgeon, radiation oncologist. Hence, lung cancer is treated and potentially cured by early detection, surgical removal of the tumor and appropriate treatment with chemotherapy and radiation. Not all cancers can be cured but they can be treated.See 1 more doctor answer
Rarely is cured.: It depends on the stage and if the cancer has spread. Small cell lung carcinoma is usually treated with chemotherapy and radiation. It is one of the most aggressive subtypes of lung cancer. Definitely consult with an oncologist, but patients with small cell should weigh the benefits of participating in treatment offered in clinical trials at university centers.See 4 more doctor answers
Depends: Lung cancer can go from localized (stage 1) to wide- spread (stage iv). If it goes from involving one lobe only, to more than one lobe, the lymph nodes in the chest, the other lung, the chest wall, or the other structures in the chest, the chances of cure drop significantly. Lung cancer is best treated when it is found early, and the most successful treatment is surgery.See 1 more doctor answer
Surgery: All things considered, surgery gives the best results for cure. This is dependent on stage at the time of presentation, with earlier stage cancers more likely to be amenable to complete removal and potential cure. This may be in conjunction with chemotherapy and/or radiation, either before or after surgery.
What to do if I don't have lung cancer but I am asking in general. Do you think that it can be cured?
See below: You can not. It would take a team of doctors with special training in surgery, oncology and radiation oncology to address this issue. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex.

Friend of mine who is 48 was dx with non small cell lung cancer stage 2a what is the prognosis. Any chance of cure?
Guarded: I'm glad you're there for your friend. For stage 2a lung cancer, about 35-40% of people are alive in five years with treatment. I'm going to assume that the staging is complete. Best wishes to you both
Not aware of one: Not that anyone is aware of! Even though one may one day be found, be very carefull about what anyone is pushing as a cure! Besides the financial risk there is also a health risk and interaction with other medications you may be on when you take any herbs of potions not reviewed or approved by the fda. At the very least notify your doctor when you are taking anything other than prescribed.See 2 more doctor answers
Surgery +/- more: Assuming this is an early stage Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer, as treatment is different for small cell. If complete resection is possible, surgery is potentially curative in early stage NSCLC. With advancing stage in early stage NSCLC risk of recurrence increases and as such additional treatments are recommended including chemotherapy and in selected cases radiation. Clinical trials are valuable
No: Although herbal and homepathic medicine may help with some of the symptoms of the disease and the treatment, there is no evidence to support a herbal cure for lung cancer. The standard of care therapy for best chance of cure for stage I and ii lung cancer is surgery, with a role for chemotherapy for stages ii-iv and radiation for stage iii and possibly IV (as standard of care). Deoxygenated blood enters the lungs from the right side of the heart and travels to the lungs. When you inspire, oxygen flows into the lungs, transverses the capilliares and attaches to hemoglobin down a gradient. At the same time, co2 diffuses into the capilaries and is expelled with exhalation. Oxygen rich blood then flows to the left side of the heart and into the ...Read more
