Can low thyroid mask symptoms of high blood pressure caused by kidney disease? Is blood pressure of 170/150 a medical emergency?

Can low thyroid mask symptoms of high blood pressure caused by kidney disease? Is blood pressure of 170/150 a medical emergency?

BP of 170/150: Your blood pressure is significantly elevated and is, therefore, poorly controlled. Your hypothyroidism is not masking it. As a young woman, you need to speak to your physician (P) about either increasing your BP meds, from one to more agents and considering the fact that you have secondary hypertension (SH) and working up for that possibility. See you P for more help, as your P knows you best. ...Read more

Is there a safe medication that i can take to help me lose weight? I am 5'8" tall, male, and weigh about 185 pounds. I take medication for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and low thyroid.

Med for weight loss: Your stats put you at a bmi of 28.1 which is clearly overweight. Accordingly, i would recommend considering: a) making sure your thyroid is completely and adequately replaced. This means a tsh, free t4, free t3, and reverse t3. All too frequently, docs are guided by TSH only. B) topomax (topirimate) is a medication i frequently use in my patients. It "defizzes" pop and cuts carb cravings. ...Read more

Can high blood pressure medicine cause hypothyroidism?

Can high blood pressure medicine cause hypothyroidism?

BP meds and thyroid: All anti-hypertensive medications, used only to treat it have no effect on the thryoid gland. Amieorderone, which is used to treat irregular heart beats can cause hypothryodism. So, if you are not on it, any thryorid hypoactivity is probably not caused by your blood pressure medicines. ...Read more

My wife is 37 week pregnant with hypothyroid, breech presentation and high blood pressure. Should we go for cesarean before 40th week. Please suggest.

Depends: Given that the baby is breech, it would likely already be recommended your wife have a cesarean section. However, given the high blood pressure, sometimes it is necessary to deliver the baby before 40 weeks. It would depend on how high her BP is and if it is accompanied by other symptoms such as a high level of protein in her urine. The health of the fetus is also considered. Talk to your ob/gyn. ...Read more
