Can Low Iron Cause Irregular Periods
I'm a 24, virgin, anemic & lately I'm experiencing irregular periods with a fairly low flow than my regular, can iron pills help increase the flow?
I have low blood count, & I've started taking iron supplements. However, I am getting irregular periods now (twice per month). Is this normal?
Anemia: It is more likely that your irregular or heavy bleeding would lead to your iron def anemia rather than other way around. Iron can cause constipation or some abdominal discomfort. You may need to talk to your doctor about birth control pills or other types of hormones to help control your cycle.
Depends...: Iron pills would only be helpful if you actually have iron deficiency anemia. If you have heavy periods then you may develop iron deficiency anemia. Your doctor can do a blood test to determine of you have iron deficiency anemia so see your doctor for testing if you are concerned. Good luck!!!See 1 more doctor answer
Complex question: Addison's disease is adrenal failure, and that can cause you to be quite ill. However, it is not clear what is meant by "low cortisol". Cortisol varies considerably throughout the day. One blood measurement does not diagnose much of anything. You may want to see an Endocrinologist before beginning any treatment for this.

Common problem: Irregular periods are one of the most common problems obgyns treat. If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections & hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then redo a home pregnancy test. There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit.
Several things: This is a problem that requires a face-to-face meeting with your doctor. In that meeting, your doctor will listen to you, perform a throrough examination and possibly order labs or other tests. Based on this information, he/she will be able to tell you what's wrong and what to do about it.
Likely not related: Irregular periods mean you don't ovulate reliably or regularly; if you have spontaneous periods you are ovulating sometimes. Any doctor who works with reproductive age women should be able to help you sort your cycles out better! appetite/suppression has a loose association only with menstrual cyclicity.
Missed: Irregular and missed periods happen due to irregular or missed ovulations. By definition you have mild ovulatory dysfunction, the most frequent female fertility problem (30%.).
