Can Low Iron Affect Your Period
I just got my blood work back and my iron level was 649. I still have a regular period, don't take any meds and my iron low before. What's wrong with?
Could be error: That iron level is very very high...Especially in light of being low before. There are several components of the iron-work-up, thus it is possible that this is actually not the iron level but other protein i.e. Transferrin (200-400) and ferritin (30-400) depending on specific lab. Ferritin can vary greatly, easily over 1000 with acute illness etc... So, check with your doc to confirm. Good luck.See 1 more doctor answer
Can you have a light and pain free period with low iron? Went vegan and it has changed from very heavy & painful to light & almost pain free.
No: It is likely that your month long period (s)are causing your low iron. Your period (s) are abnormal. There are many reasons for this, and is affected by age, number of babies, hormonal imbalance tumors in the uterus just to name a few. I would recommend yousee your gynecologist..See 1 more doctor answer
Period causes anemia: Your period is more likely to cause anemia by leading to heavy bleeding. The fact that you have low iron despite not having a period is perplexing and you should consult with a doctor about irregular periods. Regardless, you may benefit from hormonal control with a birth control method and an iron supplement. Would be happy to consult with you on this.See 1 more doctor answer
Anxiety: I commend you for being Vegetarian for Good Health Dried beans, dark green leafy vegetables, cooked Soybeans, Lentils, Spinach and Tofu are good sources of Iron. Iron absorption is increased by eating foods containing vitamin C along with foods containing iron. Period for 3-4 weeks is likely due to overwhelming stresses in your life. I'm 38 & have low iron stores. My period only lasts for 2 days and is heavy for first day then lighter the on last. Could this be caused by low iron?
I have been bleeding for the past month, I thought my period cycle changing but that's not it, I was doing some researc and I think could be low iron?
Not likely: Low iron is not likely responsible for your continuous menstrual bleeding. You may become iron-deficient as a result of your continued blood loss from menstruation, but low iron itself is not the cause of your ongoing menstrual bleeding. You may want to see your ob/gyn to determine why your menstrual cycles are irregular. If you can regulate these cycles, you can potentially reduce loss of iron.
Hi I am 1 week late for my period and have never had sexual intercorse I am currently on ferroguard as my iron was low. Why have I missed my period?
Irregular periods: Irregular periods are one of the most common problems obgyns treat. If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections ; hormonal changes can cause spotting. There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit.
No: Missing a period, means less blood loss which usually will cause less iron depletion. However in cases of severe malnutrition, such as seen with anorexia, a woman can stop menstruation and have low iron but it is not the cause. If your periods are less frequent and flow is not heavy, your doctor should check for other causes of low iron.
Period was 5-8 days but suddenly dropped to only 2-3. Why would this happen? Virgin, hx of regular heavy-ish (gotten lighter over the last 2 years) cycle. Could anemia/low iron cause it. Suspicious of AIHA. Multiple symptoms. Don't see doc to April.
Pretty normal.: Don't think it's anything abnormal. Your period can change both with age and it can vary from its baseline to longer or shorter. No particular reason except for normal hormonal changes.
Iron deficiency: Yes and no. If the lady has low iron stores which is the case in 50% of young women then periods which if heavy can further stress the iron stores and contribute to further iron deficiency and anemia down the road. If some one has adequate iron stores then periods per se should not cause low iron levels. But anemia or iron deficiency is what I suspect here. Iron supplementation may be needed.
Does taking T4 only for a long period of time cause ones cortisol and iron levels to become low? Should 1 correct these b4 starting ndt
Not likely: Thyroid hormone does not cause iron to go down. However people with a well proven low cortisol (adrenal insufficiency) should correct their adrenal insufficiency before taking thyroxine (t4) as thyroid hormone can increase metabolism of cortisol. This does not apply to people with normal cortisol production, who can compensate very well for this effect.
I could possibly have low iron it runs in my family my period has been longer this month than normal 7+days no pain & very little clots. What's wrong?
Maybe one-time thing: Maybe it's just a one-time symptom. Many women have occasional variation of their mucus discharge, some spotting between periods, a heavier period, a lighter period, or even a missed period. Having one or two of these symptoms doesn’t necessarily mean there is a medical problem, but a visit to one’s primary care or ob-gyn doctor is a good idea if symptoms are persistent, recurring, or worrisome.
I'm 19, I weigh 100kg and I'm 171.6 CM tall. My period is 19 days late. My iron levels are low. It has been 43 days since my last period, any ideas?
Hormonal issues: Iron deficiency is not unusual in young women especially if they have heavy periods. Iron rich foods (leafy green veggies) and iron supplements can help. If sexually active get apregnancy test. Your weight and irregular periods could point to thyroid problems or polycystic ovaries. Testing hormone levels including testosterone and fasting Insulin may help sort things out. Weight loss may also help.
