Does nix (permethrin) lice lotion kill scabies?

Does nix (permethrin) lice lotion kill scabies?

Not a good choice: Nonprescription nix (permethrin 1%) is used to treat lice but is not strong enough to cure scabies. Prescription Permethrin 5% (elimite) cream is the most common medication to treat scabies and it works well. Lindane is mentioned in the above answer- it is rarely used now and carries a boxed warning because it has caused seizures and death in some age groups and low weight individuals. ...Read more

Are there any natural supplements or shampoos that can kill lice?

Are there any natural supplements or shampoos that can kill lice?

Not really: If you want to kill lice, then you will need a shampoo that has a chemical insecticide in it. It is possible to eradicate lice without using one, but it would require great dedication to check the whole scalp daily for live insects, and comb the hair strand by strand to remove the tiny white eggs (nits). The over-the-counter medicated shampoos are very safe, and I think they are a wiser choice. ...Read more

Follow directions: It sounds like you are using Elimite (permethrin). Use as shampoo and leave on for the recommended time period and then rinse and repeat 7-9 days later. Do not use other shampoos. Anyone suspected of having lice should be treated at the same time. There are weaker solutions for children and babies. Wash all clothing and bed linen in hot water. All the best. ...Read more

Does derbac m help or get rid of scabies? Or does any other lice lotion help?

Not usually: Derbac is malathion; an organophosphorous insecticide used in resistant cases of head lice (over age six years) not usually used in scabies where resistance is rare. Malathion is flammable and made with a base of rubbing alcohol so use on raw skin (as in scabies) would cause stinging and irritation. Scabies is treated with prescription Elimite (permethrin) Permethrin 5% or--less effective oral ivermectin. ...Read more

If I had public lice of scabies, what sort of symptoms could I expect? Would you have bites on hand and penis?

Itching: Scabies shows up as tiny bites but the "bugs" are too small to see. The bites can be anywhere on the body, including the back of the hand (not so much the palm) and the penis. With lice, you can see the tiny white bugs. They don't tend to produce visible bites. They are in the hair - scalp or pubic. ...Read more

Hard to speculate: This may have started off as a simple reaction to something you came in contact with. If it has persisted this long it may be what is labeled a neurodermatitis, a fancy label for changes that occur if you itch & scratch producing more itching & scratching. It may respond to an otc hydrocortisone cream and your willful effort to avoid scratching for a couple months. Your doc may need to see it. ...Read more

Very confusing: Rid is not a treatment for scabies. You fail to note the name of the pills or the name of the "prescription." Sounds like you need a better DR. If you really have scabies, ivermectin pills are a single dose with one more dose 2 weeks later. Permethrin cream is used once all over the skin, then repeated in 1 or 2 weeks. All contacts are treated, even if not itchy. From first treatment to absence of ...Read more

Will a cell blood count test diagnose scabies and pubic lice I read on the internet that scabies come out from the pores from the nose?

Skin scrapings: Scabies is generally diagnosed by the history and appearance of the skin, confirmed with a skin scraping and microscopic examination. Pubic lice can be visualized by the naked eye for diagnosis. A CBC would likely be unhelpful in determining these sorts of problems. Scabies live under the skin of any part of the body, usually spots that are protected (in skin folds, under the waist band, etc.) ...Read more
