Can Lexapro 20mg Affect Male Fertility Or Pose Any Potential Birth Defects
Birth defects & ART: Conventional ivf has not been convincingly linked to birth defects worldwide. There's some evidence linking micro-injection of sperm (ivf/icsi) to a possible slight increase in birth defects (2% or so;) this has not been proven conclusively, and is still being investigated. If an increased risk really does exist, it is a small one. ...Read more
Birth Control Pill: If your partner is taking a low dose birth control pill, or misses several pills, there may not be enough hormone to suppress ovulation and she can get pregnant whether you are taking male fertility drugs or not. Still, if you are taking male fertility supplements, it suggests you may have a low sperm count and that reduces the chance of her conceiving. You should get semen analysis to find out. ...Read more
How does Accutane not affect your fertility after? It's so serious in causing birth defects while on the drug and messes up hormones, how is it safe?
Who says it's safe?: It is one of the more toxic drugs, and the only reason we use it is because for some people, the pain of living with severe acne makes its risks worthwhile. Accutane acts on rapidly growing tissues, which is why it is contraindicated in pregnancy; but it does not appear to be as toxic to ovaries and eggs as it is to an embryo or a fetus. ...Read more
Minimal to both: A single study of this area is a minimal risk on both counts. They don't like to do studies if you are pregnant out of a sense of caution, & this creates some confusion on the matter. ...Read more

INDIVIDUAL ISSUE: The reaction any adult has to a loss is based on countless past experiences in their life, current health and stress level, and other undefined factors. I have seen fathers leave a delivery room and disappear or the mother need long term antidepressants with the identical defect. I have also seen them rise to the occasion and become a stronger couple. ...Read more
Data presented on: This site http://www. Ncbi. Nlm. Nih. Gov/m/pubmed/15023170/ suggest an ⬆ed risk of congenital abnormalities. Husband is taking libido max male enhancement pill. Warning on package says it contains a chemical that may cause birth defects. Which chemical?
Food supplement: This is a proprietary product containing herbs, some of which have been shown to improve libido. The label does warn about blood pressure and heart conditions. There may also be some components in it that they do not list, since a "power max blend" of 341mg is listed. There are no studies of these herbs or other unidentified components that determine safety to fetuses. ...Read more
Male / taking klonopin (clonazepam) and atenelol can either of these cause birth defects? We might start trying this year that's why I ask? Wife not taking meds
Klonopin (clonazepam): Klonopin (clonazepam) has been linked to some risk of fetal problems when the mother is taking it during pregnancy, but these don't apply when the father alone is taking it. You don't say why you're on the Klonopin (clonazepam) -- hopefully you and your doctor are working on the core issue, rather than simply medicating with a habit-forming drug for an extended time. Be well. ...Read more
Could a male's 9 mo Accutane use at age 16 years cause his unborn baby's diagnosis of congenital vsd 10 years later? Or other birth defects?
Unrelated: Any sperm that might be affected during use are long gone 9 years later. We have no data suggesting males use of Accutane relates sperm or causes any birth defect. The medication has a direct toxic effect to an embryo if consumed by the mother during pregnancy. Congenital vsd is one of the most common heart related defects & has a broad genetic basis & some recurrence risk. ...Read more

Patients who do not respond to conservative treatment for spondylolysis (fracture of pars interarticularis, that is the hook holding your spine bones together) may benefit from surgery. Surgery fuses the spine in order to prevent movement across the fracture and prevent the spine from slipping apart (spondylolithesis).

How do you increase male fertility for someone who doesn't want to quit smoking, but has an overall healthy diet and is physically healthy?
Probably does not: Male sperm quality as defined as fertilization and embryo quality at ivf seem unchanged in several studies. Other studies suggest that fertility may decline as early as 35-39. I believe much of the confusion arises over limited research and different definitions of male fertility. It would seem that while sperm counts decrease the quality does not until late age. Consult you doc. Best wishes. ...Read more
Not always: 1/3 of infertility stems from "male factor." red flags in a man's history include mumps, fevers or a job environment with heat to the scrotum. Marijuana use lowers sperm count. Maybe: Some ssris (prozac) have been associated with increased levels of sperm dna fragmentation which could lead to infertility or miscarriages. You can check for sperm dna fragmentation and know for sure. ...Read more
Recent evidence, yes: Recent genome and population studies associate paternal age with autism, schizophrenia, and possibly cancer. Mice studies show decreased fertility with middle age and altered sperm genes. An english study showed that men>45 years needed 5x longer to achieve pregnancy with partner.
