Klonopin (clonazepam) withdrawal causing restless legs?

Could be: Klonopin (clonazepam) and other benzodiazepines are occasionally used for restless leg syndrome (rls), so that upon withdrawal, symptoms would be expected to return. Unless RLS was present prior to Klonopin (clonazepam) use, appearance of RLS for the first time would not be expected upon medication withdrawal, if withdrawal was not abrupt.

RLS: It is a syndrome w/ symptoms of an urge to move the legs especially near bedtime, that improves w/ movement ; is worse @ rest. It typically has uneasy sensations. What is the cause for restless leg syndrome? Experiencing it night and day! also having lower back pain.

What is the cause for restless leg syndrome? Experiencing it night and day! also having lower back pain.

Not known: No known cause for restless legs syndrome exists. Researchers suspect the condition may be due to an imbalance of the brain chemical dopamine. This chemical sends messages to control muscle movement. Rls runs in families in at least half the people with rls, especaily early age. Rls sometimes accompanies other conditions. Pregnancy peripheral neuropathy. Iron deficiency. Kidney failure.

Diagnosed with adrenal adenoma. Can this cause restless leg syndrome? Seem to be restless all over, though, like an urge to run to shake it off.

Very unlikely: Unfortunately no definite cause of RLS is known. It is suspected to be genetic. Dopamine agonist drugs like premipexole are very effective.

What causes restless leg syndrome?

What causes restless leg syndrome?

NOT FULLY KNOWN: But do find some patients with disruption of iron stores, so, can check ferritin levels. We do find some problem with dopamine issues, and find success in using dopamine agonists, but another approach using Horizant, affects different brain chemicals. May be some genetic links in a few families, and association with a sleep disorder in some also found.

What exactly causes restless leg syndrome?

What exactly causes restless leg syndrome?

Dopamine lack: I think restless leg syndrome is probably caused in susceptible people (tends to be familial) by a relative lack of sufficient Dopamine and is often associated with fatigue, dopamine-blocking medicines, chronic illness, and the end of gestation. Medications that increase Dopamine are frequently helpful as can be Neurontin (gabapentin) and Klonopin (clonazepam)..
